I am getting Windows update error code: 800B0100 on KB2654428

I have tried the Microsoft fixit, resetting the windows update and now hope you guys can help me.

I have attached the log files. Hopefully everything is in there you need.

If not please let me know what to do to get you what is required.

The PC is a Dell box with Win7 Pro 32 Bit SP1, if that helps.

Thanks,

Rich

There are no problems in either the SFC log, or the CheckSUR log.
I suspect that this means that there is corruption in the SoftwareDistribution folder
Is KB2654428 the only update that's failing?

If so, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder
do a Search there for files containing 'KB2654428' and see what comes up - delete all found.
Close Windows Explorer

Now open Windows Update - do a Check for Updates, and see what comes up.
UNselect all updates, then select ONLY the oldest update (hopefully KB2654428 - if not make a note which), and attempt to install that.
What happens? what error code do you get?

I went through my update history and this is the only update that has failed, albeit several times.
It is also the only one that comes up when I 'Check for Updates'

I did the search in c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution and it found nothing.
I made sure to click on 'File Contents,' but 'No items Match'

I appreciate you getting back to me so quickly.

I'm not sure what else to do....Is there a manual way to install it that may work?

In that case, we'll have to do an amputation :)

This could be due to corruption in the SoftwareDistribution folder - the problem with that the conventional cure can lead to problems later on, if not handled properly, and you will lose your Update history (but the updates will still be installed, and viewable in the Installed Updates listing).

Open an Elevated Command Prompt
Run the following commands

NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

wait 15 minutes, and reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.
