Been having a problem for some time now with updates failing. Error code is consistently 80070005. I seem to have permission problems .... I selected only the first update for installation when creating CBS log(s).
I ran SURT and it completed successfully.
I ran sfc /scannow and it completed with errors that it could not fix.
CBS zip is attached. Thank you for helping.

Y I would try a system restore mate if it were me and then set the updates to only install what you want and do them in small batches. Do that and if the problem starts again you may be able to ID the update and Hide it from updates. The do a restore again I know this is tedious but worth a try.

It looks to me like you've been running some kind of 'cleanup tool' - and it's messed with the media sample files, since all have been deleted.

I'll post a fix protocol later.

There is NO need to do a System Restore - and it won't help, unless you go back to before you did whatever it was that did this (and may not work then, anyhow)

This file could take a while to upload - so come back every 30 minutes or so, if it's not there when you first look!

I've uploaded a file - media64.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\media64
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\media64
or
DIR E:\media64

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\media64 <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

Thanks Noel all I got was support at Microsoft replies on a Google as they pertained to admin rights and updates errors hence my suggestion.
I am no good at reading those dump types as a general rule. :)

Thanks much! I did do a restore last week and you are correct, it did not fix the problem. I would have to restore too far back and I would lose important changes and I'm not even sure that I could go back far enough. I will work on the repair ASAP and post back in a short while.

Redoing media64 procedure

I goofed so I will redo the media64 procedure and be more careful. I mistakenly extracted to C:\media64\media64 so I actually copied the folder to winsxs instead of the individual files!!!!

CBS looking better ...

I think things are getting some better but I am totally lost with the actual dump deciphering task. Shall I attempt to update or wait for more instructions?

Updates failed BUT with different results!

I selected 14 of 17 updated. Supposedly system was downloading 14 updates but there was never any download progress shown; then abruptly a window popped up saying that all 14 updates were successfully installed. Upon rechecking for updates, I discovered there were zero updates actually installed because all 14 updates were again listed as ready. Never any error message. Also attached two screen shots along with CBS.zip

Thanks for any help.

There's no significant errors since 07:27 on 2nd March.

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file - it may show something.

What happens if you do a new scan for updates, and attempt to install ONLY the oldest one found? - what error message do you get?

It looks as if BITS is failing somewhere along the line :(

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands...

REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS
SC QUERYEX BITS

post the results

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Somebody's been tweaking the service so it doesn't restart on failure!

Please open Services.msc
Find the Background Intelligent Transfer service entry, and double-click on it
Click on the Recovery tab, and make sure the following settings are applied.

First Failure - Restart the Service
Second Failure - Restart the Service
Subsequent failures - Take no Action
Reset fail count after - 1 day
Reset service after - 1 minute
There should be NO other entries on that page.

Close the panel and the control, then reboot, and attempt another update.

BITS still fatal

Update failure again after selecting oldest. I had tweaked that one BITS setting on 3rd retry. Looking at update log and BITS still not ok.

The first two settings were wrong there, as well - they were set to 'Take no Action'. please double-check.
Let's take another look...

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/

Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

(I'm off to bed now - see you tomorrow evening)
