OK not to worry now.
Microsoft Error Reporting helped me out here.

Here is the solution from the problems and solutions (Actions Center)

An issue with the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) client in Windows 7 beta is causing Explorer and some MSI-based installers to stop working properly.
To solve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
    SecurityBadge_16x16.gif
In the User Account Control window, verify that Program name is Windows Command Processor, and then click Yes.
  3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type or paste the following text at the prompt:
    reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /f
  4. Press Enter to install the solution.
  5. If The operation completed successfully displays, close the Administrator: Command Prompt window to complete this procedure. If "ERROR: Access is denied" displays, repeat this procedure from the top, making sure you clicked Run as administrator in step two.

Hey Guys, I need help.
Windows Update won't open. I tried the above fix, but nothing happened, update still won't open. I go to the website, and the holding page telling me to open update from the start panel is all I get.

This may be related to a larger problem causing me to operate in safe mode.
I am still not sure why, but when win7 hits the login screen, it is a matter of 10 seconds or so until the screen is scrambled, frozen, then the computer restarts. This is regardless of whether I login or not. I don't have any saved restore points, does this require a fresh install?

Hi Neil, welcome to Sevenforums.

For starters, what build of Windows 7 are you using? (type winver in the start menu) If you're using anything below build 7048 then you will encounter issues, more so with the x64 version. You may wan to try the latest build (7068 or 7077) as they are a lot more stable.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!
I'm at work now, so I can't look at my rig directly, but I believe I'm running 7000. I'll try the upgrade route tonight, let y'all know what happens.

Installed 7077. Works great, looks great. Having trouble installing Adobe Creative Suite CS3 from the discs, but its alright. I'll just do my business in XP for the time being.
Thanks again.

I want to say a special thank to "Sandeep" who gave the tip for fixing the "Windows Update Not working" problem. I applied the fix after running command Prompt as an administrator and it did work. Big time!

Thanks again.
