I am running windows 7 Ultimate. Windows update says the service is not running, please restart. I noticed in another thread that a few things were required to allow diagnosis of the problem. These were Please open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following commands
NET START BFE NET START BITS NET START WUAUSERV NET START TRUSTEDINSTALLER
post the results.
I did this and the following was received.
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\Tony>NET START BFE
The requested service has already been started.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
C:\Users\Tony>NET START BITS
The service name is invalid.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
C:\Users\Tony>NET START WUAUSERV
The service name is invalid.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
C:\Users\Tony>NET START TRUSTEDINSTALLER
The Windows Modules Installer service is starting.
The Windows Modules Installer service was started successfully.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182.
I did have a problem where BFE was not able to be run but this was rectified recently when I installed Norton Internet Security 2013.
Any help in being able to get the Windows Update Service started and running would be appreciated.

You have obviously been badly hit by a malware infestation - Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.
Delete everything it finds
I'll meanwhile get a specialist to advise further. This looks like a newer variant to me, so they are likely to be more up on it than I am.

Results from the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware were that 7 problems were found under a full scan. These were removed. I also ran a quick scan for all other users and found no problems.
A full Anti-Virus scan was run with Norton Internet Security prior to the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan and this detected 3 problems which were all removed.
Slartybart/Noel - should I follow the post by Slartybart or should i wait for instructions back from Noel before proceeding. I don't want to be starting down one route and then changing to another which may cause further problems. I do appreciate the time you guys are giving to this.
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and selectRun As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
After the scan has finished...
This time, click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

When i try to run Windows Update I still get the same message that I did at the beginning of this thread. The Service is not running, and it is not even listed under Services.
I still have all the Services listed under post no3 not available and not running.
How do I get the services that I have missing added?
