Normally never have a huge issue with this machine and it's been running steady for years; but after uninstalling some software using Revo Uninstaller I think I was too trigger happy in removing files and registry entries perhaps.
Could be unrelated, could be related... let me explain the situation.

Earlier today I was unable to make restore points, that's now fixed with various troubleshooting I've been doing for most of the day.

I'm also unable to do an SFC /scannow with the error being given to me:
Code:
Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service
.
Manually starting the Windows Module service does not work and I've tried almost every method available via google.

The other problem is that Windows Update simply refuses to update with error 80004002 being thrown at me.
I've tried updating the Windows Update Agent manually but get the error:
Code:
WIndows Update Agent Installer encountered unrecoverable error.
I've also tried the SURT and that gets to the end of its process but throws a different error regarding Windows Update at me, 0x80070005.

Tried so many different fixes from all over the google-net today I've lost track of which ones I have and haven't tried so happy to try anything else that can be offered.

CBS zip at the link below, can't do an SFC scan so can't post results.

Hi Christov,
dont use it myself but does Revo have a restore/undo option, if so use it.
It should however have produced a log, need to see it.

From what i can see in the CBSlog, permissions have been changed to denied.
run this prog, check restore permissions and repair windows update
Download Tweaking.com - Windows Repair 3.9.16

Thanks Roy,
Tried the repair utility and restored all permissions, repaired windows update but all still the same.
Sadly because of the first problem I had ref system restore points I can't roll back the revo uninstalls. Wish I'd noticed it earlier!

Can't seem to find a revo uninstaller log anywhere but happy to share one if someone can point me in the right direction.

Hi Christov,
the logs might be here
Comp > C > program files/program files 86 > Revo > logs

Tweaking seems to have partially worked, the permissions have changed its now only showing an attributes failure.

As you have a custom install you should have your install media, you could try a repair NO personal data loss
Repair Install

Sorry for radio silence, been away for a few days.

The repair install fixed some of the problems though I had to go through a few more steps after this.
Windows Update still wouldn't work but the sfc /scannnow did, so did that but still no updates coming down.

I then began googling the fault of windows updates not coming down after a fresh install, a lot of people recommended installing IE11 and the relevant updates required for IE11 to install. Listed alongside the IE11 download installer.
So, did that and lo & behold... eventually Windows update kicked into life (left it for an hour or so) and I've been able to update the machine with everything working.

Happy days! Thanks for your help Roy.
