Solved windows updates during installation ?

Windows Updates will not offer your system updates for non'supported operating systems.

I did a Clean Install a couple of weeks ago and this was my method and it worked well.

1. Installed Windows 7 Pro/64 without updates.
2. Installed all updates except (drivers and Skype). Verify that you are on the Microsoft official website.
3. Installed and updated MSE and Malwarebytes Premium.
4. Activated Windows 7
5. Kept checking for Window 7 updates until it no longer offered any updates.
6. Verified that I.E. 11 was installed and working properly.
7. Downloaded and installed programs I wanted.
8. Installed nVidia driver for my card from nVidea website.
9. Monitored Device Manager for any flagged drivers.
10. Ran security scans to verify I didn't pickup some strangers.

** All this was done while constantly checking for updates and rebooting several times. Then I made a Restore point.


*** Made a Clone using Macrium Reflect and verified the Clone was working properly.
You might have to go into Protection and turn on Restore Points while in the Clone in order to make a Restore Point.

@ Layback Bear : thanks sir for the quick & prompt response. i think all the concerns are answered well. But would you like to solve the last query in the way. The matter of drivers ! it may be little off the topic but is needed !

1.it says that you never update the drivers provided by the installation except for the graphic card or those which are still flagged after installation ! is it ok ? i heard people say ''don't change the driver till it ain't break'' while other say update the drivers for boosting the performance .
2.Some people say that update the drivers available with the manufacturer of the each device/component while other say to update drivers available with OEM(s) like Dell, hp,etc. Some even update drivers available with Windows/Microsoft Updates !
As for OEM support page i think : if one goes blindly, he would end up with bloatwares in the name of enhancers, but what if we go selectively ? the drivers installed with the OS installation would probably be as old as the OS is ,and if we have to go with Microsoft drivers why not update them with windows/microsoft updates ? if one tries to go for each device's manufacturer website, its not difficult either !

what you have to say ,sir ?

Windows 7 has almost all the needed drivers.
Their are some I choose to get from the O.E. manufacture and the video card drivers is one of them.
I have not owned a store bought computer like a 'Dell' or ' Acer' but if I did I would get the need drivers from those companies.

My first object when doing a clean install is get the system up, running and online.
It will do that with the Windows 7 drivers and the motherboard DVD drivers and chipset. (At lease it does for me.) Then it's the owners choice to update drivers.
Just because a driver is newer doesn't necessarily mean it's better for that system.

Many drivers example (Realtech audio) I don't update unless I'm having a problem with the audio.
I personally do not update drivers or bios just to be doing it.
If I have a problem I read about the driver/bios and see if it is designed to solve my problem.
If it isn't; I look for other method to fix my problem.
If one is getting a BSOD and the experts here indicated it's a driver I would updated to the next newest driver. I will let other test the newest drivers.
When everything works properly for sometime I over clock it to a usable fastest speed possible. I want reliable system. Not the fastest today and broke tomorrow.
The system I'm posting now with is in my specs. 6 cores running at a 26% overclock and very steady and reliable.
I really don't know if all the drivers or bios are the newest. I do know that they all are working as they should. Knock on wood.

i understand respecting this thread and its positioning is also important but if you could brief a little !

1.Till now i had no idea but to restore the clone/system image itself to check it but it seems you are talking about some methods like mounting an image, virtual, etc. Right ?
2. why to make retsore points while in the clone ? checking method to check the clone ?

When I use Macrium Reflect to make clones, the clones will not have Restore points from the old drive. I have to go into protection and turn on restore points and make a new restore point.
I think this is done because when using a clone you don't want the possible problems that were stored in the restore points of the previous systems restore points.

I verify a clone as working properly by using it just like it was the only system I had.
Just use the clone like you used the old system. Do all the normal things that you do.
If the clone does all those things the way it should; you have just verified it's a good clone.

The computer I'm typing from now is a clone of a install that got infected. The clone was made before the other system got infected.
Once I verified the clone worked as it should I wiped the other ssd and made another clone on it.

When you have a good clone (verified), I recommend using it about once a week to update everything and then disconnecting it and put in a safe place.

If you have the proper size ssd you can put a clone on it and then partition it in order to put backups on that new partition. It all depends how much you have to backup.

If you have a lot to back up you can put a clone on a ssd and the data backups on a external hard drive.

Note:
This is quite easy for me to do using Macrium Reflect because my systems have Hot Swap bays.
Pop a drive in the Hot Swap bay and make a clone and or backup and pop the drive back out.

Clones of the 'C' partition take me about 6 minutes. (SSD to SSD.)

It is because system volume information is excluded from the VSS snaphot.

If you avoid using vss, you can include restore points. I don't think macrium has a separate driver for use within windows, but you can include restore points if you make an image from within winpe.

Other imaging programs ( e.g. Aomei ) have a separate snapshot driver, which can be optionally used instead of vss.

Including restore points will make the image larger.
