Long story short, I have 2 machines running Windows 7 SP1 and haven't been updated since 2014. 1 is my laptop I use as my "daily driver" and the other is my gaming rig desktop.
On my gaming rig desktop I'm wanting to upgrade my GPU. I'm using nvidia driver 339.00 from 2015, and the driver isn't new enough for my new GPU.
I got the latest nvidia driver package but it wants 2 windows updates. KB4474419 and KB4490628.
I want to install these updates manually, getting them from the microsoft update catalog. They say they have no prerequisites, but are they likely to be dependent on updates I didn't get from 2014-2019?
My plan right now is to try installing those 2 updates by themselves, starting with KB4490628. I've looked online and people sometimes encounter a "not applicable to system" error.
If I get that error I guess I'll have to try installing whatever windows update wants? Does anyone here have a better idea? I saw here: https://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/424255-ms-update-kb4474419-kb4490628.html where someone posted an update pack. Should I use that or another pack like it, or do I need to install updates in a certain order? Can I trust windows update to do it?
