Windows won't hibernate after moving to SSD

Yesterday I moved Windows 7 from a partition on a physical hard drive to a new SSD. It was pretty easy, and everything works great except the hibernate function. The screen goes blank for about two seconds and then comes back on. Nothing power-related appears in the Event Viewer. The PC restarts, shuts down, and even sleeps with no trouble. I ran powercfg -h off and then powercfg -h on to delete and recreate the hibernation file, but it didn't help. Any thoughts?

Please, and no offense, but no lectures about how a "clean" reinstall is required or even recommended when moving to an SSD. That's just not true. Similar to upgrading to a larger physical hard drive, all you do is copy the partition to the new drive and continue on your way.

I found a few threads suggesting that making the Windows 7 partition active can fix the problem. The partition is already active though, so that's not it exactly. However, because moving to the SSD required playing with partitions, it likely has SOMETHING to do with partitions.

Is anything evident in the Diagnostics-Performance log around hibernate time which could reveal what's blocking it? troubleshooting steps

If you want to cut to the chase use the tool which the experts use to trace hibernate issues which always reveals the problem: Trace Windows 7 boot-shutdown-hibernate-standby-resume issues

Once you have the trace .etl file, if you need help interpreting the charts presented, upload to a file sharing server like Windows Live and send a PM to Cluberti who is the expert on these traces.

Figured it out (mostly). It has something to do with GRUB, my multiboot boot manager. If I bypass that and boot straight into Windows 7 from the BIOS, hibernation works. I'll discuss it further in a GRUB/Linux forum since it's apparently not a Windows problem. Thanks.
