Windows won't install, a required CD/DVD driver is needed

Hi! When I try to install Windows 7 it gives me an error that says A required CD/DVD driver is needed after clicking install now. I am running Windows 10 on a Lenovo Flex 3-1130. I am trying to dual boot windows 10 and windows 7 together. It has a UEFI bios and the windows 7 iso is formatted on a flash drive. I have a legit key for it and the iso says it is untouched.

ummm.... I can't use a DVD because this doesn't have a disk drive and if I use a usb one (which I don't have) it would be like using a USB drive anyways...

In the past whenever we`ve seen that error message it was from the result of a bad burn, a too quick burn or a corrupt iso file.

Is there a secure boot in the bios, is it disabled ?

Are you using a 2.0 usb port ?

The specs say it came with 8.1 or 10, will it run 7 ?

I`m just trying to throw ideas out there

When you used the boot menu, did you choose the non uefi option ?

Yes, I am using a USB 2.0 port, it came with windows 10, I don't see why it wouldn't run windows 7, secure boot is disabled (as well as fast boot), and I didn't disable UEFI because the USB is formatted to boot off of UEFI.

Well I`m not sure about the motherboard on it, but there was much discussion about new boards dropping a feature, the windows 7 installer does not have usb 3.0 support during the install, even though you`re using 2.0 ports, it may be asking for a driver for your usb stick.

Maybe you could 1st try installing 7 in a virtual machine on 10 and see if it throws up the same message.

How ironic but I just got done installing the same iso in a virtual machine and it didn't throw up that message. It installed instantly, but even with it in a virtual machine I still need it installed natively because a virtual machine is too slow.

OK, it`s because windows 10 has the usb drivers in it, so that tells us something.


So here`s my theory, you are going to have to get the chipset drivers or the usb drivers for that machine and put them on the usb stick, during the install when it asks for the drivers, see if you can insert/install them.

I hope an expert on this chimes in with some more advice.

That's exactly what I was thinking but I can't find the drivers anywhere and I would have to load them off of the hard drive instead of the USB drive because in the browse menu it doesn't recognize the flash drive.

They now make usb 3.0 flash drives, what make and model do you have ?

The drivers are at the pc makers website, but since this pc was never made for 7, there may be no drivers.

So your quest may ne in vain.
