Hi, I have recently encrypted a documents partition shared between my two OS's. Is there any way I can access my data from Windows XP without decrypting? The laptop I am currently using is 7 years old, so I didn't want to encrypt the Windows 7 C: partition.

The whole point of encryption is to prevent exactly what you are trying to do.

Not really, I am trying to access my own data from either OS on my computer. BitLocker to go reader allows you to do basically the same thing, just only with portable media. I want to do the same thing with my internal hard disk.

You encrypted the DATA in Windows 7 and now want to access it on Windows XP, without decrypting it?

Do you understand what encryption means?

Did you use Bitlocker-To-Go on the drive in question?
If not then no, you must decrypt the data in order to access it from both systems.

Um, wow. Maybe I found the wrong forum. Maybe it would be best if I fouund information elsewhere. I fully understand the concept of encryption, I would like to know if there is some kind of tool, perhaps developed by microsoft that would allow Windows XP to unlock the drive in a fashion similar to Windows 7 so I could access my data.

I installed Bitlocker to go on XP, but it only detects portable media. Is there a way to emulate this so it sees the partition as portable media or a flash drive?

No. Bitlocker-To-Go uses a much different system on portable media.
Then Bitlocker used on internal HDDs.
