windows xp mode

1. reason for this attmpt is to bring to this computer Outlook
Express. Had so much trouble with installing Windows Live Mail
that I gave up.
2. running windows 7 pro
3. downloaded and installed windows6.1-kb958559-x86-refreshpkg.msu
4. downloaded and installed windows6.1-kb977206-x86.msu
5. start
clicked windows virtual pc
clicked windows xp mode
got the license agreement window
clicked on accept agreement
got the xp setup window
entered the password
checked "remember password"
clicked next
got the windows updater window - checked not right now
clicked next
got the share drives window
clicked on "start setup"
then I got a bunch of do nothing windows that never stop
can't see what's at the bottom of the screen
have to hit "x" in upper right hand corner to stop it
then got a small window "turning off the virtual machine"
that doesn't end
have to power down the computer to get out of it.

may sound stupid, but is your copy of windows legit, if not, that is most likely your problem.

Thank you for replying Cryptocore.
It is legit. In fact I had to go through the validation procedure to get
this far with it. I tried to follow the example given on this forum to
do this but I guess I messed something up .
