Windows XP sp3.. freezing after updating Malwarebytes yesterday

Would someone here reply to me about the screen shot DFENNIS posted above..
I do NOT have Services on a tab.when I get to that screen.

M'Lady, have been watching, as it's easier to have one person (like Greg) giving instructions then 3 or 4. But you are looking for the processes tab, and mbamservice.exe

M'Lady, I know you are getting frustrated, I will try something that may make this easier if you are able to do all the steps I will list before the pc locks up.

Boot to Safe mode with command prompt

When the command prompt loads type the following followed by enter each time

sc stop "MBAMService"

Enter

sc config "MBAMService" start= disabled

Enter

sc delete "MBAMService"

Enter

Reboot and see if PC will start correctly. If so you should be able to go to add or delete programs, and uninstall MalwareBytes. Take your time, I will be watching. A Guy

they are just on a long list.

Are you referring to the Task Manager Processes list?

Click on the CPU column heading to order the Processes by usage. Then if any are hogging CPU click on the process to highlight it and choose End Process, ignore Warning.


Can you boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt to follow Bill's steps?

I would attempt these and then the Repair Install to see if it's available as an option.

If not then I'd use Partition Wizard CD to resize the left side of XP partition to create space to clean reinstall with your disk, after install transfer files over and browse for drivers from the failed install, later delete it. If you want I'll connect via TeamViewer as soon as you get online to help you set it up as I just did an XP MCE install recently and it's fresh.

I booted in to SAFE MODE... selected with prompts.. lots of drivers filled the screen..
then the screen froze..
I'm going back to try the Device Manager.. as soon as I have info. to share I'll be back

If nothing is running up the CPU once you click on it's column heading in Task Manager Processes, then check if any Applications are running to End.

If not, boot the XP CD to see if there is a Repair Install option as shown in illustrated steps here: XP Repair Install

Yeah an Alarm went off when Dennis mentioned ZoneAlarm crapware earlier.

Please turn on XP Firewall in Control Panel. Make sure Windows Updates are current.

Even Avast can be fussy, especially with a 3rd farty pyrewall. MSE seems to be more stable all-around.

Do you have the paid Malwarebytes Real Time Shield?

I was assuming ZA firewall, ForceField is a blocking software, different animal. Hopefully she has it sorted now. A Guy
