Hey, I just have a few things to list that are weird since my upgrade, and I wanna see if anyone knows how to handle them.

1. If I close my lid (which is set to do nothing) and leave it for a long time (I think about 2 hours, but I'm going to run some kind of experiment), when I open it back up the screen stays black for a prolonged period of time. then when the screen background comes back up and I move the mouse around, in about 5 seconds it freezes and I have to wait like 10-15 min for my comp to work normally. does anyone know why that is? when my comp sleeps, it starts up real fast coming put of sleep mode, so for now I switched it to sleep after 2 hours to see if that will help, but its not fixing the problem if one exists.

2. Under "Solve PC Issues" it wants me to run system maintenance and set up a backup. I ran system maintenance once, but it wanted me to do it again the next day, why is that? And I have an external hard drive, but will it keep coming back even after I back up my computer?

Those are my major questions, I have a few others I will post after these get answered. Thanks to all who are taking time to help, it is very my appreciated.

First, did you actually upgrade from XP to 7, or did you do a clean install?

Second, System Maintenance is not a Windows 7 program. Could it be a program that came with the laptop?

If you complete a backup successfully, it should not prompt you to create another one for a while. If it does, post back, and we will figure it out.

I did a clean install

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520, i dont know if it came with the computer

Also, I have another weird thing- I was running an AVG scan on my computer, left the room, came back in (i was away about 30 min) and the sign in page was up. I signed in, and about 30 seconds later there was a message saying Windows shut down unexpectedly. Was this just a fluke thing?

I doubt it was a fluke.

Provide more detail on running AVG.

I use to use it and never came to a sign in page. Sign in to what?? AVG? What do you think you signed in to?

Can you run a successful and complete AVG scan now without any "sign in" stuff?

He means that Windows crashed and he had to log back into windows.

AVG is not a very good AV Scanner.

Get Microsoft Security Essentials,,, much better scanner and it's free.

Also,,, on 1
Your system will still go into Sleep or Hibernate after a period of time. This is normal.
However,, there is a problem at times when coming out of sleep or hibernate.
This may not be directly related to 7.
I am trying to find the fix posted around somewhere.....

Try these to start with....

Can you provide screen shots for number 2?

Whats RAC?

Also, my mouse pad has the scrolling bars on the side which were very convenient. now with Windows 7 they dont work, can I turn them back on somehow?

Also, when I would change the volume an image would come up to show the volume level, now thats gone too. how do i get that back?

hey, and now my memory is usually around 1GB, and when I was running winXP it was usually around 300-600MB. does win7 just use more memory?

My Computer

OS
Windows 7
Yes,, Win 7 uses more,,, but uses it differently and more efficiently.
Please keep in mind that Win 7 is not XP. They are 2 completely different OS's and work differently under the hood.
