windows7 activation will not work

I claen installed win7 home premium after a very bad virus. I put in the key which is on the bottom of the laptop. It did not work can anyone help me please?

A product key number can only be activated on 3 computers at the same time if it is one that came with a retail Family Pack copy of Windows 7, you may have to do a phone activation if you have activated it often in a short period.

according to HP website that comp came with W8.1, did they give you W7 disks.

Can you run the Mxdiag tool from this forum.

Hi the coa on the bottom of my laptop is HP Home Premium windows 7I know some versions of this laptop run windos 8 but my model number dv7-4131sa which is thw win7 os version.

Have you checked that you actually used the right letters & numbers in the activation code. Sometimes a letter or number can easily be mistaken, so re check with a magnifying glass the you have not made a mistake. Also sometimes the code sticker can get damaged or smudged making it very hard to read.
