Solved windows7 home premium 64bit desktop sound does not work

I just joined this forum. I recently upgraded to win 7 home premium 64 bit from xp. I have AV Lab Multimedia Desktop Theater AVL320 sound system. It worked fine with XP, never a problem. With Windows 7 I can use the headset but not the AVL320 sound system as it is not recognised. Any solutions please, I'm getting grey hairs from frustration.
I wonder if the fact that the sound system is analog is the culprit.

Did you remember to install the drivers for your sound card?

What drivers? When I got the computer I checked online for updates for Realtek HD Audio Manager which came with the computer and it was up to date.
My system is:

• CPU: Intel Core i5-760 Processor (8M Cache, 2.80 GHz)
• RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz
• Hard Disk: 1TB SATA II HDD
• Optical Drive: 22X DVD+/- Dual Layer DVD Writer
• Graphics: Redeon HD5450 1GB Graphic Card
• Motherboards: Intel 55HC
• Sound: High Definition Audio 6 Channel
• Network: Gigabit LAN
• Case: Huntkey A402 Mid ATX Case with 580W Slient Power Supply
• Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
What other drivers will I need to make my old but good analog desktop speakers work ? And are there any other drivers needed for that system? When I inquired for support with Microsoft, the reply was System not supported, see supplier/manufacturer.
Any suggestions please ?

It is not entirely clear from your first post but.. I guess the whole pc is new and you are trying to connect an older speaker system, right? Some readers could have thought you installed W7 on the system you previously used for XP.

Looking at the specs of your mobo... It has digital 5.1 and two analog outputs like for a analog headphone, I guess a green receptor at the back (maybe the builder copied it to the front of your case...)
Anyway, I think your speakers came with three connectors? ( subw, stereo front, stereo back?).
Then if you have correct realtek drivers, I'd expect headphones to work and if the right plug goes in.. Your front speakers from your speakerset... No more....

Yes you are right. I'm trying to add the old AVL320 sound system to new computer. Would we be better buying a new sound system than to try to persist with this very old sound system. If so, any suggestions what would be a good system ? Say under the $100 mark.
three receptors in back, where I've plugged the AVL320 (which don't work), and two in front which work for the head phones.

As far as the speakers go, assuming the sound driver is installed and the speakers are plugged into the correct jacks on the back, then it is either the jacks on the motherboard don't work or the speakers have given up the ghost. There are no drivers required for speakers that plug into a sound card.

The audio possibilities on this mobo are very good but require some understanding. Intel concept here is that the pc will become more versatile in the home and they have designed it with a combination of Analog (normal PC) stereo output that can be sourced from a different source simultaneously with a multimedia 7.1 (digital). So you could listen to normal analog stereo (headphone or speaker) in your office while the family watches a movie with 7.1 surround (digital) in the room next door. The latter requires a speaker system that can handle digital 5.1 (or 7.1) surround input. That is were your current problem is. Your speaker system is analog.

I'm not very up-to-date with speaker sets in the States but will have a look if I can find something here from an international operator that you might be able to find there...

But.... that, I think, is not going to solve your problem. It is my believe this 7.1 digital surround capability is ONLY provided through the boards HDMI output using hdmi broadest and modern specifications. I think this is only meant for a connection to a full HD TV/Multimedia system, not "just" a surround speaker system in your office..

Yes, this is obviously beyond our "pay grade", but we are working on it, and hopefully will understand and utilize what should be a good system.

Don't know if it would help but keep in mind that, if the mobo hdmi mthod is overkill because you only want your 5.1 sound in your office ( or wherever you have the pc)....a simple and cheap solution could be to add a simple 5.1 soundcard, analog outputs ofcourse, and you could still re-use your existing speakerset....
