I had a look and there doesnt seem to be anything called "partition"... there is the c: and then the d:.. the d: has loads of folders - eg. "1025 -3082" along with loads of files like "paramenterInfo" "setup" "setupEngine.dll"

tried to reinstall back to various points and just wont work..
I have to boot in safe mode, as the main problem is i cant access normal mode.. due to explorer.exe error . this is why i need to reinstall

thoughts?

Did you try to run Asus Factory Recovery as given in Post #3?

If Asus Factory Recovery will not run following those steps (try 3 times) then your options are to use Recovery disks you made at setup or order from Asus Tech Support, or to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 using a Win7 installer provided in tutorial which you should read in full now.

However with Starter version there are a few extra steps. You must download an ISO of your bit-version, then after it's downloaded run the eicfg removal tool on the downloaded ISO to unlock all versions. Then use the tool in Step 2 to burn to DVD or write to flash stick an all-versions isntaller, when booted choose Starter version.
