I am a relic collector. I dont toss computers just because there is a new model out. Mainly running Win-7Pro on a 2 year old Dell laptop. My problem involves a 14year old Windows 2000-Server, sets in the basement acts as a backup machine and a print-server for my old LaserJet III. Shares drives with the main PC, has remote desktop for fussing with the backups. Has run this way for over 10 years with little attention or changes.
Today, I tried to print out some tax form, (from the laptop) and no go. Could not see the shared drives from the laptop. Went to the basement, machine is running, seems to work fine when sitting there. Go back up stairs, on a whim I try Windows Remote Desktop--works fine! Still no printer, still no access to the mapped remote drives using Windows-7 Explorer.
Windows-7 machine Explorer "Network" shows a new icon that I dont remember.
"pace access point" It bothers me that "Pace access point" has so few Google responses. It bothers me more when I go back to "Network" after a few minutes, and "Pace access point" has vanished.
After considerable *&%^&$%#@##$ (unbelievably gross and obscene expletive deleted) and nothing else changed, or found, I went back to a restore point before the last Windows Update. Now, everything I can think to try is working like it should.
My questions: Is anyone else having LAN problems after the last update? And, is there a suggestion on managing the update to avoid this breakage? And finally, what the heck is the "Pace Access Point"?
