I have recently decided to wipe my computer. However, I have installed an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium installed.

If I use a program to erase my 1 terabyte hard drive, (rewriting all of the binary values to 0's) will I be able to reinstall my Windows 7 with my serial number? I heard that it registers the serial key you use to your motherboard, so I'm not sure if it also is dependent on the same hard drive too.

I also built my computer myself from parts I bought off the internet if that makes any difference.
Which means I bought the OEM CD separately. From Amazon, actually.

Thank you for your time.

You can reinstall OEM as often as you like to the same hardware. Only a mobo makes it complicated, but MS will sometimes give waivers even for a mobo change.

Zeroing the HD will not change it's signature but even it it did, it requires more of a hardware change than just one element - except for the mobo.

Thank you very much!

:D
