Hello,

Bought a new router Netgear WNDR 3700 and a wireless netwerk card for my desktop Hercules N PCI card (HWNP-300)

Router is using both 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz netwerk. I can see both SSID's on my laptop (available wireless networks) running windows xp. But on my desktop running windows 7 Home Edition I can only see the 2.4 Ghz and not the 5 Ghz :(.

I reported the question at the support desk of Hercules but received the answer that this is a operating system issue.

Any ideas, suggestions, reactions, ...

Thanks in advance !

From Hercules Wireless N PCI Card (HWNP-300) - WiFi - Hercules
* Compatible with available WiFi standards (802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n)

It does not says 802.11a, thus I assume it does not works with 5GHz frequency. All the compatible standards are for 2.4GHz band.

Its homegroup. Homegroup uses IPv6 which has problems on some mixed networks. Workgroup should be used when there are different types of machines on the network.

To verify set up a new network connection using workgroup instead. If it works you can disable IPv6 and kill homegroup

Let us know if you need help with that

Following answer received from Hercules support
The access point HWNP-300 was designed to work with the following Wifi protocols:
- 802.11b: 1, 2, 5.5 and 11Mbits/s data rates in the 2.4GHz band
- 802.11g: 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48 and 54Mbits/s data rates in the 2.4GHz band
- 802.11n draft 1.0 and 2.0: data rates in the 2.4GHz band, varying depending on the bandwidth of the channel used (20 or 40MHz). Values are classified from MCS0 to MCS15 and vary from 7.2 to 144.44Mbits/s for 20MHz and from 15 to 300Mbits/s for 4MHz.

The fact that the 5Ghz band cannot be seen on Windows 7 is strictly related to the operating system installed.

Indeed it does not says 802.11a... so no 5 Ghz ....Confusing is their last remark : the fact that the 5 Ghz band cannot be seen on Win 7 is strictly related to the os installed.

Is the conclusion that my wireless netwerk card is not picking up the 5 Ghz signal because the only compatible standards are 2.4 Ghz.

Happy with the signal I have using 2.4 Ghz. Just wanted to play with 5 Ghz...
