Wireless Gaming Routers

I'm currently looking into buying a new router as my current telus one just doesn't meet my needs. It has a very week WiFi range and not a good connection even when close. Looking for a decent priced router 60-80$ max is 100$ but with a connection that can span a 3 story house as the router will be located in the basement. This router needs to be more towards the gaming side if it can be, most of the time it will be supporting 1 PC and 2 laptops. As well as I am wondering if getting a new router will decrease ping sometimes with the current router over WiFi it spike to the 1000s on the laptops

Don't know much about gaming routers but I use this one and it has not given me any problem... I use one for the house and another one for the office network. I don't know about a 3 story house and less so with basement since we don't know what a basement here is (Miami, flat as a pancake) but I do own a 2 story house and they were built as bad as you can think off so I know the router is strong enough.

Haven't looked at any routers from a gaming perspective (my gaming rig is wired) but this video might help get you in the right direction as he tells you what you should look for....

I don't recommend wireless for gaming, but it you have to go that route, especially three stories you might want to add a repeater (use your old router) through different levels of the house. Take a look here

Yeah wireless for gaming is ugly...

Go for an N class wireless PC adapter and router if you must, dual band on your adapter at the PC, I think they run about $60.

Allows for double the signals back and forth, instead of just 1 from a cheap regular one, unless I misread the specs, I don't own one.

Signal repeater, good idea, if distance from the router is long and/or goes through a lot of walls, but you can skip it and see if needed first.
