Wireless Network Connection "adapter is not connected"

Hello,

After functioning properly for a long time, my wireless internet has stopped functioning. I was watching youtube while installing the user software for a new wireless printer (Canon imageCLASS MF4800 Series) from a CD. I accidently hit the CD eject which interrupted the installation. I pushed the CD back in and resumed installation, which completed quickly and all the programs it installed worked fine. After my youtube video finished I noticed that I was no longer connected to the network the bottom right indicator thing said "Not connected, No connections available."

When I try to make a network map from the control panel it says, "The adapter is not connected." I can connect to the network with an ethernet cable (into my modem) and I can also connect to the internet with a wired hotspot from my phone (via usb).

I am pretty sure my modem is setup properly because it has worked with this computer for a long time and is currently working with a similar laptop (also HP, also Windows 7 Professional x64).

I have looked around on the internet for fixes so I have tried disabling and enabling my "Wireless Network Connection" in the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections page, without success. I have also tried uninstalling the Network Adapter from the Device manager and then restarting my computer, without success. My network adapter drivers are also up to date (according to windows)

It may help to reset the N900 Netgear router using the reset button on the side of the router. It's fairly typical for the wireless to go out while the wired connection will keep on working.

It sometimes requires a 30-30-30 reset to fix the router.

Thank you for your suggestion, however, the reset did not help. I believe it is an issue with the laptop since all other devices I have tried can use the wireless internet perfectly. My other computers also detect my neighbors WiFi, but the laptop in question doesn't even seem to check for wireless connections and says that there are no connections available.

Is there any type of third party anti virus software installed on this system?

The light is white (I have toggled it a few times with no change) but my computer seems to be acting as if it was turned off.

Well the connection looks good and you have a valid IP through Ethernet but that isn't the problem.

There is a good chance that Norton may be causing this problem but we will go with the driver end of things first.

You should go to the Windows update Center to see if they have a updated version of the driver for the Atheros 9285.

Disabling Norton or uninstalling it using the special tool may be another option.

I just downloaded and installed updates, but they were the usual security updates with no new drivers.

I tried disabling every feature and activating silent mode, but that had no effect. I also tried resetting the firewall to default settings but that also had no effect.

Can you go into Device Manager under network adaptors, does the Atheros 9285 have an exclamation point after it? Have you tried to reinstall or update the driver from the HP site?

Had the same problem yesterday

I had the same thing happen to me after I forced shutdown my computer. I Tried to reinstall the realtek driver I also tried system restore. I was able to open a part of my laptop and unplug the realtek device. then I turned my computer on plugged the realtek device back in restarted my computer several times then voila
it worked!
