Hello. I have a HP 6930p laptop with Windows 7Pro. Yesterday I downloaded Avast Grime Fighter wirelessly via my smartphone, now I can't get my Wi Fi on the laptop to turn on. The icon shows orange but won't turn blue when I touch it so that I can connect to Hot Spot. This has never done this before. Yesterday I called Avast and talked to 2 different people for about an hour. They had me trying several different things but nothing worked, they needed me hooked to the internet so they could get into my laptop. This my first post, any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. You have a Switch that turns on the Wireless but does not work ? ..

Or do you use Function Keys to Enable it ? ...

Does the Network Adapter show in the Device Manager ? ...

I have a Dell Latitude D810 with the same problem, changed the Wi-Fi adapter and no luck so I disabled it in the BIOS and added a USB Wi-Fi adapter [AWLL5088], problem solved inexpensively, about $15 at the time and the 802.11n is faster than the built-in 802.11g.

Maxie, I use the icon on the laptop, it is orange when off and should turn blue when on. I have 3 items in device mgr. and all 3 show working properly. I hope this makes sense.

with fi won't connect

Maxie, Sorry it took so long to reply. I just can't get this problem figured out, all i'm doing is going in circles and getting noware. I am retired and no good at the tech stuff. The best thing for me is take this computer in to be repaired or buy a new one. If I decided on a new laptop I will start a new thread to get some sugestions about models and operating systems out there. I thank all the members for their help and support.

I would not go to a Repair Shop just because your WiFi is not working .. The easy fix is in Post 3 by Berton ...

Wireless USB Adapters are really cheap and for certain will solve your problem ..

Real easy to set up also most are just Plug and Play ..

So I plug it into a USB port on my laptop and it will transmit wirelessly to my phone?
There's more to it than that. Most times connecting to a cellphone/smartphone is done using Bluetooth, a short-range form of wireless. My wife's Smartphone also can connect to the Internet through my Wireless Router.

Some computers, mostly Notebooks, have that adapter as part of the Wireless adapter, I have a Dell and HP with it and my MacBook Pro uses it with a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, quite handy since the MacBook has only 2 USB ports. Bluetooth is quite handy for mice and keyboards and some printers that also have it.

The cellphone providers in my area have a device for connecting computers to the Internet via the cellphone service/towers, not the fastest but much better than Dial-Up service.
