After a happy life in Win 7 I took the plunge to Win 10. After a couple of days I reverted back to Win 7-phew!
Since coming back my Live Mail is doing strange things. Every time I open WLM another windows opens stating 'Restoring Live Mail database'. After that it appears to be OK but some (many) email messages in Inbox will not delete. I get a message ' An unknown problem has occurred' If windows doesn't know what the problem is how am I supposed to know. I have run the repair tool but no luck. I actually deleted live Mail from Windows Essential and reloaded it but it started reloading the Data base routine and brought all my messages back into the new install. Now I have hundreds of message in my Inbox that I can't remove and the unknown problem message keep popping up. I'm not a pc expert but I'm not dumb newbe either and this is driving me to distraction as my wife wants my old pc and I can't clean it out. Suggestions please

Hello and welcome (back) Brit now before you did the reinstall how did you prepare the hard drive because like so may others have done like yourself you have issues that to me smack of remnants left over from the 10 install.

WLM issues

Thanks for the quick response ICITLOL-good one! I didn't do anything to prepare the HD to revert to WIN 7. On Microsoft site there is a link to reverse the 10 install and I clicked on it and it did the rest

Yes I know mate but there is so much deviant behaviour on Microsoft's part - for want of a better term and after my own similar experience with what you did I personally make sure that hard drive is clean suing the clean all in DISKPART and then I know the thing is squeaky clean.

Plus I do not trust any updates form M$ any more in fact I only download and install the ones I know are not 10 related. Even so that GWX Control Panel still picks up 10 related files which of course I always delete.

If you are going to do yet another install then I would advise you to install first up the disable batch file from this Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums and install this to keep a check on the 10 related updates Ultimate Outsider - Software Downloads - I keep mine on the desktop for easy access and use it just about everyday. Only download the Control Panel though because it does offer other stuff you don't want or at least what I don'y think is necessary.

Anyway the way to clean all is here if you feel so inclined http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52129-disk-clean-clean-all-diskpart-command.html - I prefer the command prompt method.

Thanks for info. It would appear that your expertise is light years ahead of me. As a retired exec I read a lot of computer reports but really only started the 'hands on' part 10 years ago. Here's where I'm at. I'm not going to reload Win 10. I started on XP and graduated to Win 7 and missed all the Vista debacle so Win 7 is a comfortable place to be. What I want to do is get this laptop cleaned up so it works properly. I want to do this myself (with your help) so it adds to my learning curve. I ran Disk Clean up but that didn't make any difference. I am going to review DISKPART and try to understand what it does. What I don't want to do is erase any data in the pc now. So while you're sending out ZZZZZZ's in the land downunder I'll try to get up to speed and not screw things up. Cheers

Perhaps a reinstall of Windows Essentials will do the trick!
Just open "Programs and Features" and click "Windows Essentials" then the uninstall button! Once you've uninstalled the program, I would restart the computer for good measure (although it probably isn't necessary), then redownload Windows Essentials from Windows Essentials - Microsoft Windows. (it's free!)

Well DISKPART is really good tool for a few things but I would like to know what you have in the way of installation media first.

Yep I am going offline now for a while but not going to 10 I think you are very wise even though 7's days are numbered well until 2018 they are hinting at.

Just out of curiosity have you ever tried Linux or Ubuntu as OS's those systems are all free and come with heaps of bundled software - free and the email client can be used for your current email provider - I have one laptop set up already and I am trying to get used to it again for when Microsoft get real nasty with their push to 10. - Food for thought;)
