wlmail.exe missing....other weirdness

When I open windows live mail i get an error message in the notification area saying wlmail.exe in missing in c:\windows\syswow64. When I open the directory, there is no files starting with anything past the letter k within syswow64. I'm guessing this isn't normal. Any ideas?

Incase your wondering, windows live mail works just fine.

This just started a few minutes ago. It was working fine when I check my mail an hour ago.

Heres what i'm planing to do, in this order, until the problem is resolved.

1)back up all new files
2)run MSE
3)run MBAM
4)System restore
5)repair install

Any problem with this?

Are you sure it couldn't be a problem with my new hard drive or something?

In other words. could the files have just been erased.

Never mind. It has to be a virus of some kind because MSE can see the files that I can't.

I feel like such an idiot. Last night when the full scan started, I stopped it and did a quick scan so that I could feel fine putting the computer on standby before going to bed. Also, I stuck my flash drive in to see if it still worked after getting wet earlier. The last time I used it was when I plugged it in to my dads still infected PC.

Are sure the HD was new, not second hand full virus.

The Dell guy (oh god) said that they were sending a new one. Didn't check to make sure it wasn't a refurb.

Also, I started full MSE scans on the rest of the computers on my network to be safe. They appear normal, but it never hurts to be safe.

If you do a clean install, make you clean the HD first.

BTW, the disk was raw. No file system or anything when I got it. Had to format it to NTFS.

Thanks for the tutorials, and the help. One thing I love about this site is how fast everyone responds with good info. In the past week I got my network problems straight, my dads computer running faster than I've ever seen it run, and a problem with my DSL I'd been having for over a year fixed in ten seconds thanks to info I've gotten on this site.

Update: MSE has officially found something. Man I love this program. Definitely doing only full scans on here for now on.

Now I feel even more stupid. I forgot that I downloaded that trojan simulator A Guy was talking about on another thread. When I tried to install it IZArc said it wouldn't allow me to and MSE immediate started a quick scan. I assumed it didn't install. Weird nothing happened from it until a few minutes ago. Sorry for bothering everyone.

At least I got everything backed up now and know what to do when something similar happens in the future.

What I have right now usually does fine (MSE does better than anything else I've use). At least it found it during a scan. I think this is more a problem of user error/stupidity than a poor AV program.

i keep getting error message that the wlmail.exe has been moved and do i want to delete this file and windows live messenger is not working properly
