WMC Connecting/Extender issue

"have you enabled sharing on your network, this can be achieved in network and sharing center > homegroup and sharing options "

ya u bet , ive enabled everything i could think of , even uninstalled differnet media players in case of conflict . Now with the Zune at least connecting , makes me wonder .

I noticed that your last picture doesn't have a network that you're connected to, on mine it says homegroup, maybe the problem lies with the network settings, I'm not at my PC right now but I'll have a look at it in the morning and post my findings.

Ah, that's very strange, I feel it could be a service that has been disabled on your system then, click on the start menu and type in there "services.msc" without the quotation marks, if there's a prompt then accept, now scoll down the list until you see "windows media player network sharing service" and if it's disabled the change to automatic and start the service, now have a look and see if it shows you the media sharing options again.

Have you removed windows media player from your system by any chance? That service should always be running, or at least be showing in services.msc anyway...

ok, double post but i'm determined to sort this out for you, open up the network and sharing center, and in there go to homegroup and sharing options, in there click on change advanced sharing options, now look at the picture ive posted below and copy the settings as you see them, after youve done that, reboot your system and see if anything shows up.

Found an old post , but again searching for gpedit comes up with nothing ....???

people in said post said it worked , now only if this thing would find it

Run gpedit.msc. Go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Security.

Enable "Set client connection encryption level" & change encryption level to 'Client Compatible'.
Disable "Always prompt for password upon connection"

I'm guessing these settings don't only apply to Windows 7, but to Vista and XP media centers as well.

i just keep thinking its something to do with that wmp network sharing service, if that isn't running then there wont be any network to connect to. the sharing service lets you access the library on wmp, media center needs an extender connection

Ok, here we go, practical solution, go to control panel and go to programs and features, on the left bar, Click on turn windows features on or off, look for windows media player and uncheck it, apply and let it uninstall, after it is done, check it again(you may need the installation disc for it to install) and apply, reboot and see if "windows media player network sharing service" appears in services.msc again, if it does then we are now cooking with gas.
