Word pad opens office files

Hi,

Sorry if this has been dealt with in another thread, but I couldn't find one.
I have Windows 7 and office 07. I am unable to open .doc files from email/my folders unless I right click the file and say 'open with office' or I am in office and open the file that I want. If the file is attached in an email, or on a forum it will automatically open with word pad and it is all jumbled about.
I have tried updating the office compatability file but it hasnt helped. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Tis all good, I just fixed it.
I went into default programs anc changed the .doc files to be opened by office word instead of word pad...
