I had this problem on my last laptop from Dell and I was running Windows 7 on that also. There must be SOME program that I have installed that makes my computer run constantly in the background. I've contacted Dell but they are no help. They don't seem to understand the probem and tell me that it is normal. It is NOT normal. The working in the background symbol (the moving round circle any time the computer is thinking) comes on ALL THE TIME. I barely even do anything. Sometimes just moving my mouse activates it. Any ideas? Suggestions? I can't be the only one with this problem....

I had uninstalled McAfee. It is still showing up as installed on my computer? How do I uninstall it if it doesn't show up in the control panel "uninstall a program"?

Why uninstall Bing Desktop? Too much resources? I just like the background changing every day.

I ran both 20a and 20b but 20b did not want to run on my computer (or it opened for a fraction then closed. Maybe that was runing). So far the spinning circle "working in the background" seems to be better, but it still randomly spins for no reason. How can I make sure McAfee is completely uninstalled? This tool definitely did the trick?

I'll hand over to centaur again, but if I'm correct you need to upload a new diagnostic file for him to look at to ensure it was removed.

Here is an updated file after running the McAfee uninstall tool. The spinning circle is still happening quite a bit.

I'm sure I can system restore to make it go away, but I'm worried it will just come back again. If I system restore it will be the second time I have done it in two weeks of ownership.

Mcafee not there anymore

Well bing desktop is a search indexer... it runs in the background ... if you really want to automatically change the wallpaper.. then use the Windows 7 inbuilt one .... only thing is you need download the pics beforehand ,,,, if you need help with this thats for a later post....

Now click on start > and type "resmon" in the search and then click on resmon.exe
Once there click CPU and sort by CPU percentage (descending order) ... take a snapshot and post it here

next select Memory and sort by Working set (descending order) ... take a snpshot

next select Disk and take a snapshot

post all here

Here are the snap shots I think I got enough for you. There are a lot of processes running though.

I don't need Bing Desktop I went ahead and took it off.

Thank you so much Centaur78 for solving my problem. He connected to me via TeamViewer and went right and diagnosed the problem. It was a printer drive from HP that just wouldn't stop searching for my printer and was causing the issue. He identified it quickly and figured I had to remove it to stop the problem. I did and everything is back to normal!

Fantastic job thank you again!
