Working with emails offline in WLM 2011

Hi all...

I am new here though I have been reading the forum for sometime now. Very helpful. I have a quick question which you may be able to help me with.

Do you know how I can download ALL my mails (using the IMAP option and not POP) from Gmail such that I read them offline? As of now, it appears that only some of the mail is downloaded though during the initial setup I found WLM downloading all the mail in my Gmail account. Now when I try to access older emails, I get a message saying that the mail is not available in offline mode and I must go online to access it. When I do go online, I can read the mail. What I want is to read all my mails online AND offline. How would I do that?

EDIT: Effectively, I suppose what I want to do is to keep a local copy of all my mails using IMAP in addition to having them on the Gmail server.

Thanks. I have tried that. I have my Gmail on WLM2011, its just that most of the mails are not available offline - some, however, are. And, IMAP is already activated in my Gmail account.

Edit: There is something else that is bothering me with this WLM 2011. When I click on the Send/ Receive button, it shows that 1 mail is being downloaded, and this continues for a long time. Currently, I have it on to time it. It has already been over 20 minutes!!!! It shows that there is only 1 email which needs to be downloaded and it is this which is taking a lot of time. What is interesting is that when I originally set up WLM 2011, this did not happen. This is only happening after WLM 2011 re-downloaded all my emails from my Gmail inbox. Can someone please tell me what is going on?

I seem to be spending an inordinate amount of time on WLM 2011 and I guess if it continues, I may just remove it from my machine and go back to Offline Gmail (using Gears).

All I can say is that is not what IMAP is for. Also the IMAP set up in the above tutorial seems to result in twice as many folders as necessary. So if you want to download your mail to your computer permanently and also keep it on the server permanently, why not use pop3 with the option checked to "leave mail on server"?

Hmmm...Thanks. But I read somewhere that one can save IMAP mails too. Or perhaps I misread. Let me look into it.

Each IMAP email that you open to read on your pc is now on your pc in the IMAP inbox. If you drag it to a storage folder it will now remain on the pc in the storage folder. However it will be "marked for deletion" on the server. So to keep it on the server you would right click on the marked item(s) and select "undelete". So it's possible but not as convenient as the pop3 with "leave on server" checked. Since the umn link says you can do it with IMAP, why not call them and ask them how? Maybe they have a special IMAP feature on their server to "keep read or downloaded messages on server".

If the IMAP server shows no mail left, there isn't anything to be downloaded via pop3. I acutally have several accounts set up both ways. That way I can view what is on the server in IMAP mode and delete stuff I don't want to save. Then use the pop3 account to download what's left.

Edit: I have read up quite a bit on the difference between IMAP and POP3 and I think for my purposes, IMAP will be the way to go.

The other question I have is whether it is possible to send emails directly from WLM to OneNote. Is this possible in Outlook also?
