I recently upgraded from Windows Vista x64 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. EVERYTHING went on about its business just fine except for my WoW addons.

I've tried to delete, change, move, and/or update my WoW addons in the location folder and/or via Curse Client. When i'm in the WoW folder all the addons are blue in color, with a lock over the folder icon. When trying to delete/change etc, I get an error message saying I need administrative permission to do it. I only one user on my Windows and I had a buddy go in and try to set all permissions and NOTHING has worked. I've quit playing WoW for this problem because it's so irritating, so any help is greatly appreciated!

PS- I tried deleting WoW and everything associated with it, sure enough everything is gone but the addons.

Do an uninstallation with Revo uninstaller. its a free program that deletes everything related to the software. By everything i mean, registry files that get left behind with a regular uninstallation. Try that, and restart.

Odd that the addons are still there..I played WoW for 4 years and never had problems with addons.

I did however manually download and install addons not use the curse client so I'm assuming its Curse related. The addons are inside your WoW folder yes?

I started out downloading all my addons manually, then just got lazy and started using Curse.

Also, I already deleted everything WoW, the addons remain. I tried using the Revo with hunter mode on the addons and addon folder but... no luck. Or I could be using Revo wrong I don't know.

Thanks for replies. Any others are appreciated. Gotta fix this cause I wanna play WoW again haha.

Curse is basically a program provided by Curse.com - WoW Addons WAR Addons Gamer Blogs Forums, a gaming community site that hosts player supported Addons for various games, such as World of Warcraft.

To the original OP. Technically, the folders should not be 'colored'. But the text, if they are colored, suggests that the folder has been set into 'compression' mode. I know in the past, XP would use this color, not sure with Vista and with Windows 7. I would see if you can reload your Addons fresh and see if that helps.

Also, Revo might not know how to deal with the Addons section for World of Warcraft, it is a 'non-standard'. In fact, WoW can literally be run off an external hard drive if need be (I know some users who do that), so what you might want to do is try and copy or install Wow in a different location all together, get rid of the 'Interface' folder in your WoW directory, re-run wow and let it rebuild the interface directory from scratch, then reload your addons via Curse. It should work properly.

Check also that you have permissions set correctly for the folder.

OK normally Blizzard would tell you to rename your WTF/Cache/Addons folder when you run into problems..it's basically the stock answer you get if you petition a gm ingame. It works tho I used to drag and drop those files to Desktop then erase them using "eraser".
Restart the game and it auto creates replacement folders.
I wouldn't use curse again if I were you...I did for a very short time and went back to the ho hum manual installation of addons.
If you check Blizzard's forums you can find what to do exactly....I haven't played for a good few months now so I forget the exact routine for this :( but whatever.
