Wrong clock speed!

What did i do wrong?

It may have been one of the Win 7 updates.

My Vista 64bit showed the OC speed, and I am almost positive that Win 7 may have shown the OC speed as well, but it doesn't now.

My Seven Ultimate shows my slight overclok on my Q6600

Your issue most likely stems from the fact that Windows doesn't report multipliers properly.

Here's a Prime example. The multi in my BIOS is set is @ 21*200 = 4.2Ghz.

However, Windows does not properly acknowledge the 21 multi and thinks it's @ 20*200 = 4Ghz, but I know my chip is running at 4.2ghz




Ultimately mate, it doesn't matter what Windows is reporting - your chip is running at full speed when necessary.

OK, to clearify and correct - Here's what I found out...

If you have SpeedStep or EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology) disabled in your BIOS, Windows 7/Vista WILL show BOTH the default and OVERCLOCK speeds.

As seen by my system....

EIST Disabled


EIST Enabled



CPU-Z with EIST Disabled....


CPU-Z shows the processor at full capacity, no load.

So.... depending on whether you have SpeedStep/EIST enabled or disabled will determine what Windows 7/Vista will show for clock speeds.

BTW I've enabled/disabled EIST in the BIOS. Not sure if it can be done in Windows, so.

At any rate rocstar96 HAD/HAS a valid point. And I would than say check your SpeedStep/EIST settings.
