WTV files recorded TV from a HD or MPEG4 channel cannot be burned. When I burn a DVD there are only the video_ts files but no Audio. I think Microsoft hide the audio files in another folder, but where and why? a TV recorded file from a MPEG 4 channel can be played in WMC and Nero Media Hub10 but not burned: "The file format is not supported" says the program. I have tried WTVtoAVI but got the error: The file format not supported! Yhis WTV file hhad H264 format, please try WTV h264 to MPEG converter"
Do I need to say that Win 7 right clikck menu convert to mrv-ds does not work either.

I assume that tmpgenc could do it. But it might well be some form of DRM that tries to interfere.
If you can upload a short test clip somewhere, I'll check if I can make any sense out of it.

OK...I got it (Danish? clip about shark attacks on surfers) but as I suspected, it's the DRM protection that prohibits regular conversion. That's why you can't just right click and convert to the former tv format .dvr-ms. I'm gonna look a bit deeper into this right now.

As it seems there are a few shady apps out there that claim to remove DRM.
With my regular editors/convectors I get nothing.
You could use the trial version of
TMPGEnc - Products: TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress - Product Overview
and see if that works for you
Sorry I don't have any better news

Edit: This software seems to work It converts wtv to dvr-ms but since I have only a small clip, it never finishes. just try it out (run the todvrmsgui.exe as admin)

DRM = Digital Rights Management. A basic idea for the Media companies to prevent people from copying.
That's why MS changed the format to wmv. And that's the other reason why, for years everybody tried to shift users off the MP3 format...only there it didn't work :D :D

OK if it doesn't do it, we need to find a way to rid your clips of the DRM stuff
in that case try the Todvr-ms, I linked in the other post...it's freeware :D. TMPGenc never had problems with dvr-ms files.

Here is the file converted with todvr-ms. It cannot be played with sound
I must say that I'am most greatful to SledgeDG for all his effort to find a solution. Strange that not even MS can burn a WTV file recorded from MPEG4 channel.

Seems the only way would be not to use MCE for recording. My capture card does analog channels only so I'm pretty much outside the door here.
Try google for tv recording software...I'm looking at SageTV right now.
You need to find a soft that works with your equipment and offers decent output formats.
Good Luck.

Yep SageTV does the trick....
Good news: it's use is close to WMC( programmable recordings and all), it saves the clips as mpg (of course incl. Audio :D
Bad news: it's discontinued and it's not freeware just a 12 day trial.

There's got to be another good TV recording soft.
