Solved WUpdate KB4343900 fails with error 80073701

Ran batch file, reboot computer.
Standalone package install fails.
Windows update is now 'Checking for updates' and will try that one...it fails, same error 80073701

At this point I would recommend a Repair Install!

Repair Install to Fix Windows 7 Without Reformatting by Britec

You will need your 25 character product key. You can obtain the key from your computer with
KeyFinder | Magical Jelly Bean

You want CD key not product ID I usually copy and paste it into notepad and print it to prevent typos.

If you don't have DVD you will need ISO

TechBench download Ultimate all versions can be made available from any windows 7 iso - either by removing the ei.cfg file from the sources folder, or by using eicfg_removal_utility.zip

You will need 7-Zip to extract the files from ISO to desktop, or DVD

You must be within windows to run Repair Install, you cannot run it from DVD or USB.

When you have everything in place, find setup.exe and click that.

When you get to the screen giving you choices, choose Upgrade you don't actually upgrade, you are will replace your damaged Win7 with a fresh copy of it.

After everything runs and you go through the setup procedure, instead of using Win Update, temporarily disable it, use DISM++ to install the updates, it is faster and you won't be prompted to reboot a zillion times, you'll also be prompted on problematic updates and given a choice, after it completes, enable Win Update.

I will give that a shot and let you know. First I have to clone the drive because there are programming software suites on the PC, which I cannot lose. They should be fine, but who knows?

OK, after cloning the drive, then doing the repair install. I had to install the security updates one at a time in DISM++, because it wants to install 4 updates that are problematic: KB2984972,3010788,3003743,3126587. These failed, and when I download them as standalone, I get the 'not applicable' message on all four.
Other than that, all of the other updates appear to have installed fine, and standard WU does not show me needing any updates at this time.

I don't quite follow what you are saying here!

If you insert the DVD into the DVD drive, when AutoPlay appears, you can then click Run setup.exe! My thinking on this is, because you are running it from the DVD or USB, the critical system files on the HDD are not locked. This means that the repair install can manipulate any file that it needs to correct.

Out of curiosity, I know you weren't able to pre SP1, but, can you now use an integrated Windows updated USB/ISO if all the original disk options have been preserved? Otherwise, it means downloading an ISO and using that! Additionally, because repair install removes all the Windows updates, they have to be re-applied afterwards.

You could also use an ISO [not updated in any way] with the ei.cfg removed if you don't have the original disk!
