I am looking for a simple WYSIWYG HTML editor to edit simple pages, that will work in Windows 7

Any suggestions?

I am not building web sites or applications .. I simply have a few local visual web pages that I run off a local drive ( kindda like portal pages). Dirt simple. Modest needs!

For years, I have been using Microsoft Frontpage 2000 - it was perfect. I still ahve the CD, but t would like not work anymore with WIndows 7 / Office 2003..and I dont want to start corrupting files.

So I am looking for a replacement . either free or up to $50.

I tried WebPlus, but gave up after 30 minutes of convoluted back and forth licencring and activation nonesene... on the free version!!. It insisted on a prodcut key, not supplied, and there were no retuen email address - and no one to write to and no way to contact them, with going thru dozens of FAQ pages. GOODBYE. Thats 30 minutes I will never get back.

I downloaded Komposer, but there was no way to isntall it. No setpup file; onlynested zip files. GOODBYE.

I downlaoded NVU, same as Komposer. Hopeless.

I really did not want ro go back to NOTEPAD, but , gotta say, its looking really really really good right now! In fact I will be changing my IE9 default web editor to NOTEPAD for now ( if it takes it)

Was hoping there we would at leat ONE product out there, that worked on Windows 7, that could easily be downaloded and installed, in less than two hours,, and had a WYSIWYG editor, to edit a local web page. I know thats pushing the limits, but I thought bieng 2011 and all, there might be something out there.

I apologize for my sarcasm - its jsut that this is so absolutely frustrating. After all my seasoned years of computing, and all the advances, I was hoping for much better Windows experience. Its consuming so much of my valuable time judt to getthe basics going. Time ways from my family, hobbies ...and use of the computer !!! . judt had another nightmare with PerfectDisk12- It never ends.

This forum is the only saving grace :)

I havn't used wysiwyg for a long time here as I tend to manage my personal site using CMS (Joomla) but apart from the above suggestions have you tried Coffecup? As far as I am aware there is a free version and also a paid version. May be worth checking out - Free HTML Editor | CoffeeCup Software

I did use to find that there are times when hand coding is needed to adjust bad automatic wysiwyg coding. In cases like this it is better to have a good text editor, you have already mentioned notepad but have you also tried notepad++

I still have an occasional need to use Frontpage 2000. My solution was to install it on XP mode as a part of MsOffice 2000 Premium. For some reason it crashed often, so I went through my old disk / diskette / CD archives and found install media for Windows 2000, installed it to a virtual machine, installed Office 2000 and I'm happy now, works like a charm.

I honestly can recommend this solution. Due to non-existing integration components for pre-XP OS's I do not recommend installing Windows 2000 to a Microsoft Virtual PC, but both VirtualBox (VirtualBox Guest Additions) and VMware Player (VMware Tools integration components support Win2000, VMware Tools even older Window versions.

Find a copy of Win2000, it's dirt cheap even if you have to buy it. Download then VirtualBox or VMware Player virtualization platform (both are free), create a Win2000 virtual machine, install your FronPage 2000, and you are ready to go.

Wysiwyg

I've used Blue Griffon and think it's a great program. You can get it here

bluegriffon.org

And OpenOffice works really well too - the writer module will save in html. Only other one I can think of is Mozilla's SeaMonkey project.

Anyway I've used all of those three and like them a lot.

Good Luck!

I used Netscape Composer, NVU, Kompozer and some others. Also just tried to do stuff in .rtf format and convert it. There always seemed to be a point where I couldn't do what I wanted, even though it should have been simple. I was blocked by the tool(free I'm talking. Maybe there's a $1000 suite that's just wiz bang but I ain't got me no thousand dollars as the pissed off English Teacher once protested!)

I'm no site designer. But eventually a bit the bullet and used PsPad

I read up on css style sheet basics and kept hitting the online html tag references. Also asked on web programming forums when I got stuck. The wysiwyg editors get you going quickly but unless you're determined to use that tool to maintain it, you find you can't read the output. Like 800 "&nbsp"s scattered all around. Just a jumble of crap.

What I was trying to do was simple. I think I might have one line of Java Script on my pages. But I like PsPad. The whole conglommeration of files is contained as a Project. Includes Tidy to make your messy source readable. Some pros may not like Tidy but for us amateurs it helps.

Besides, you might have fun struggling to indent some text on the page!! Man is that way more difficult than it should be if you don't use like 20 "&nbsp"s per line!!
