XFX 5770 or BFG GTX 260?

Whats the better cards out of these? There is my price range.

Graphic Cards - ATI Radeon HD 5000 - ATI Radeon? HD 5770
OR
BFG Tech - BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 OC 896MB PCIe 2.0

now i hear that the 5 series ATI cards have issues at the momment, with driver crashes and the CCC randomly acting up, i never has an graphics card before (my first built pc im doing, allways been in the MB). So i dont know if to risk getting the 5770 because of the problems at the momment.
But to be honest i would rather get the 5770 because im building a sysstem with an AMD 965 so ATI card will go well, and it has DX11.

true.... gtx is faster but not by much just a few fps.... the 5770 has dx11 the 260 doesn't, ati's drivers for the 5770 are getting much better, plus with a amd cpu you'll have less issues with a ati card, now if you could pull it in your budget.... go for a 5850 if you want ati or a 275 or 285 but of the two that you picked... your better off with the 5770

From my own personal experience, the 5770 drivers are not compatible with Seven.

Difficult choice. The GTX probably outclass easily the 5770, however it is directx 10 only... I would wait a couple months if I was you.

The ati card have a faster memory, however the 5770 is only 128 bits memory interface. I would avoid it honestly if you think about gaming. Directx11 is not worth it if you have only 128 bit memory cause you will not be able to push de specs enough on my opinion.

Fast memory mean nothings if it cant handle higher quality. Pretty sure me XFX 260 black edition (216 cores, OC) outclass this 5770 easily even if not directx11.

Nothing uses DX11 anyways, so it's a moot point at this time.

to be honest i would go for the ati card because i think there better value for money and i'm getting an amd cpu. But hearing these crashing issues on the 5 series has really put me off.

I have an EVGA GTX 260 and it is a good card for the money. When it works.

There have been issues with the 260 series cards also. I had a defective one. A replacement RMA card solved my problems. Someone posted a while back that EVGA had pulled all it's 260's off Newegg's site for a while and came back with new ones a short time later. It would make sense. The 260 series came out around the same time as the W7 Beta so it is entirely possible that some hardware/firmware/software bug was uncovered and corrected around that time. I would assume that any brand's card issued at that point in time would be suspect.

If you can confirm that the card you are buying is a "upgraded" model than definitely go for it. Just be careful you are not buying a "clearance" item.

I also have a EVGA GTX260 and love it on Windows 7 Professional 64, no problems yet.

Now as to DirectX 11, yes these is some support starting to show up, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has DX11 effects, soft shadows etc..,

Even tho I mostly support Nvidia, I would say go with ATI because it gives you some "future padding" as per DX11.

If you want cool and low power usage, go ATI 5000 series.

The drivers for the 5770 work just fine in Windows 7, I have one and have had no problems with it.

I've used both the BFG GTX260 and the XFX 5770 on my current machine. I could tell a difference. Seems that the 128bit 5770 is a little slower. During some gaming action, the FPS really dropped when using the 5770 and comparable gaming action on the GTX260, it handled it like a champ.

Keep in mind I believe I have bad RAM, lol, but thats for another post

To suggest that ati cards "work better", or as you put it, "have fewer issues" with amd cpu's is a myth; one we can't even call an urban legend because it hasn't been around long enough... in short, it's nonsense.

Cpu's don't "talk" directly to graphics cards; they communicate through the northbridge. If there are certain chipsets that have problems with ATI cards, we're all ears?

I love the 5770 so far. Of course, this coming from an upgrade from a 4350 too. Incredible difference,to say the least.

5770 is less of a power hog if that helps. On my experience I think it was amazing. I don't know what you are coming off but wow I was surprised with just one 5770. I didnt notice a difference with crossfire for two 5770 so well thats another thing.
I gave in then got a 5850 (which had minor issues) after a few days. If you can spring with the money for a 5850~5870 (mind you they are big) it would be good for a long while honestly.

If you could list the items you are buying since I don't think you will be using your currently listed specs it might help or if you are trying to budget with less wasted money. Probably only reason I would say a 5850 or higher would be good because later down the road you wont have to buy a new card.

yes its a chipset thing, when ya put a ati card in a intel chipset you sometimes get issues, like wise when you put a ati card in a nvidia chipset, or a nvidia card in a ati one, so if your going with a amd based mobo your best off to get a ati card

hi again, the only thing's im using from my standerd acer i have now is the hardrive,cd drive and ram. everything else is going to be replaced.
amd phenom 965 3.4ghz
500w psu (might get 600w if its safer)
gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 motherboard
coolmaster case.

i keep chnaging my mind between them, they both have there adv and dis adv. the gtx 260 is better but the price here in the UK its £165 witch is alot. So if im going to get that i want it to be worth the money.
Whats the WEI rating to give me a rough idea how high it is?
