XP to Win 7 problem

Burned it as an .exe and it still won't run.
See post above. I am sorry I sent you on a wild goose chase.

No worries.I just appreciate the help. I'm going to burn the iso to the usb stick and see what happens. If not,I'll try to find a win 7 disk and put that onto the usb and see if that helps.

Do you have the original ISO file? Where was it downloaded from? Try burning it using ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify - it never fails. If it fails then, you will know it is a bad download which can then be checked for sure and re-downloaded.

Make sure you are following these steps to boot the DVD: Boot from CD - How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD - Boot to CD

Once you boot the DVD, select Custom install, then use Drive Tools to delete all partitions, create New one(s) as you wish, then format before installing to first partition.

Let us know how this goes. There are other troubleshooting steps if the install fails once you know the ISO and DVD burn are good, and you are booting correctly.

The brother downloaded the file from the net after she purchased it. It appears it's an .exe file instead of an ISO file.Buddy of mine is bringing me his win7 cd to install it and use her key she purchased.

Is the DVD your friend is bringing the same version? If not, try inputting the Product Key at the beginning of install process to see if installs correct version.

If not, extract DVD files to desktop, remove ei.cfg from Sources folder, recompile into ISO to burn All-Versions DVD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/32055-bootable-iso-create-installation-files.html

Was .exe originally downloaded Student Version? If so here is how to create bootable installer from .exe. files: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/30470-make-bootable-iso-student-d-l.html

I would deep clean the HD to get the cleanest possible install attempt.

Use the HD maker's diagnostics to do a full CD repair scan, then zero the HD for deepest clean: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Now boot the Win7 installer to do Custom Install, use Drive tools to create New partition(s) as you wish, format before installing to first partition.

The installer is mostly driver complete, with newer arriving quickly via Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing in Device manager or favorite apps should be found on the Support Downloads webpage for the model computer/device.

Install programs slowly to gauge performance after each. After programs and Updates are installed, clean and order HD using state-of-the-art free CCleaner "Run Cleaner" and registry tab, then Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers.

Finally save a Win7 Backup Image so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD or a replacement using DVD/Repair CD in 20 minutes.

Sorry for the delay. My buddy never got over to bring the cd,but he did create an ISO image and sent it to me.I created a bootable usb and everything installed correctly,I'm installing updates as I speak.I'm assuming that the DVD he burned was corrupt and when installing couldn't find the required files.I appreciates all the help guys.Thank You!!!:D
