Whenever I visit YouTube there is a blue message at the top of their website that says "You Are Using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 browser.YouTube is ending support for Internet Explorer 7 soon, update your browser now."

The underlined section of the above message is a link which I am to click to update my browser. I have no intention of clicking on it knowing that I am using IE9.

Has anyone here noticed this message when visiting YouTube?

No, just tried out of interest.

As for why it's happening I just don't know, unless it's a virus of some sort.

I do think you're right in resisting the urge to click on the link.

You might want to run a scan with Malwarebytes.

Thanks for your reply.

I do not think its malware or anything malacious on my computer. I have KIS installed and I have my MS security updates setting to automatic download and install. I also have MS smartscreen filter on.

The message might not be coming from YouTube's website but it sure does like it. In either case I am not even slightly inclined to click on it.

A Guy,

Thanks for your assistance.

I used the link that you provided and to my ultimate surprise this is the info that was listed for my browser:

Your User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C)

I than checked my Windows Compatibility settings like you suggested and saw that the option to "Display all websites in Compatibility" View was checked. I than went to YouTube, unchecked this option and the notification that I am using IE7 disappeared.

Good adice, A Guy!

Thanks.

Have the same problem with YouTube, but I just looked and I don't have the compatability view option checked...
And I got an error from king.com also saying that I need to have IE7 or higher (which IE9 is) installed.
This is really annoying. I thought maybe I should just download IE9 again and install it, but when I do that, I get an error message saying that a more recent version of IE is installed. I don't get it... o.O
Any help? I'd really appreciate it :)

EDIT:
Oh, and I checked out that website and what I get is:

Your User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; Trident/5.0)

what exactly does that mean?

Been fiddling with this for a while, my compuer kept saying Internet Explorer not working, thought it was all to do with Tracking Protection. Had the IE7 wording on Youtube also, went to download IE9 again from Microsoft, would never do a link as shown, my version again was more upto date with bits of security updates auto downloaded since buying this computer. Simple solution though, and one easily overlooked, if you have an icon on desktop or pinned to taskbar - dont use for now, instead go to START button, click or hover into ALL PROGRAMS, look up the list of ICONS and you may see one named - INTERNET EXPLORER and one INTERNET EXPLORER (64-bit) doubleclick on 64bit one, failing that go double clinking thro - MY COMPUTER - C - PROGRAM FILES -INTERNET EXPLORER - ieexplore (icon) see how that works. Note icon on All Progs menu that says only INTERNET EXPLORER is the 32 bit version and likewise if you go thro' MY COMPUTER way and go into PROGRAM FILES (x86) denoting that this is the depository for 32 bit programs. If clicking the 64bit ones stated works for you also, then delete your old link off desktop or unpin from taskbar, replace with copies that worked. Dont delete icon on All Progs listing though you may need to use 32bit version if you have some 32 bit online games / progs although some 32bit stuff is compatible to run on 64bit. Happy hunting, goodnight its 1.0am Zzzzzzzzzz

Wow, thanks.
Actually, I am always using the 64-bit version which is apparently the reason for all those problems.
Tried IE9 x86 and it worked! (though I don't really like using the 32-bit one - it's all sorts of trouble o.O)
But I am glad to know how to avoid getting those stupid errors ;)
Thanks, again.
