Solved How to Have only one video controller driver in windows 7

OK so you had 2 different speeds in there, it may have had something to do with the blue screens, it shouldn`t have, but it could have.

Did the PC come with these 2 different sticks in it, who put the 2 GB stick in ?

How is it doing so far ?

So far, no bluescreen!

re read reply #79

so then who put the 1 GB stick in ?

Ideally then you want a 2 x 2 GB kit of PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2

4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400 DDR2-800MHz 200pin SODIMM Dual Channel Laptop Notebook Memory - Newegg.com

but I see no reason to get anything other then 667

4GB (2X2GB) PC2-5300 DDR2-667MHz 200pin SODIMM LAPTOP RAM MEMORY - Newegg.com

But for now just get another 2 GB stick of PC2-6400 800 MHz DDR2 laptop memory.

If it runs fine for 6 months, then don`t worry about it, consider this thread closed, nite nite

I wonder who put what stick in and when
Was this PC purchased new or used ?

In Post #66 it sounds like the manufacturer installed the 1GB RAM and someone later added a 2 GB kingston stick.

Guys, before i removed the sticker which was on my laptop, i saw that it said 1gb of ram but when i removed the back cover and i saw that there are two ram sticks - one is kingston 2gb and another was the default acer 1gb one.
Why remove the sticker ?

Hey, some people don`t like those ugly stickers on their laptop, as long as you know what you got, who needs em.

Ya, it looks like someone put a 2 GB stick in of the wrong speed and it worked so they just didn`t look back

Oh well, I gave him links on what he should get, it`s in his court now and I threw away my racket.

I agree. Definitely install the Intel driver.

fyi... Only a single adapter appears because you're running the MS generic graphics driver. Remember, it's "generic". Meaning it only supports basic and core functionality common across graphics cards. Intel's 2nd controller on their card is a hardware improvement. The MS driver doesn't support a 2nd controller (so you only see one in Device Manager). So, for this Intel graphics card, only seeing one adapter turns out to be a bad thing!

MS generics are good when
> That's all there is (e.g. disk drives and CD/DVD only use MS generic drivers) or
> They get you up and running (as the case of graphics card) so you can install a vendor specific driver (if one exists) The vendor driver makes full use of the hardware to provide full functionality and performance

OH. Just noticed... One more thing

IMHO If you're going to buy anything go with the 4GB (2X2GB) PC2-5300 DDR2-667MHz 200pin SODIMM LAPTOP RAM MEMORY Newegg.com. Stick to manufacturer spec
