How to Apply Custom Themes in Windows 7​

   Information

This will show you how to apply a custom theme from deviantART as your theme in Windows 7.

Here's How:
1. First you will need to click on the Download button below to download and install either the 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) Universal Theme Patcher (auto installer) below for your 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7.

2. When downloaded, unrar the file using winrar, and run the exe.

3. Select your user interface language

4. Click OK

5. The click yes when this box appear.

6. The you need to patch these 3 files (As you see i already have mine patched) Click the patch outside each file, after patching them all reboot.

7. Now you need a custom theme, i will advise you to check these out:
New Orleans Saints by ~sergiogarcia9 on deviantART

Aero Evolution 1.0 by ~sergiogarcia9 on deviantART

Majestic Excellence by ~sergiogarcia9 on deviantART

Midnight by ~MrGRiM01 on deviantART

   Note

You can also find more themes on Deviantart, but make sure they work with windows 7.

They need to be unzipped first.

8. Now navigate to the Windows folder, find the folder called resources and click on the themes folder. (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes)
These are the files that has to be placed in the folder:

9. Then paste the folder and theme provided, then the theme should appear in your personalization menu

NOTE: In most themes there are only 2 files (a folder and a theme file)

Sorry, but that software is rather useless

It is only able to insert a .theme file into the right directory. It is also required to have a folder in that directory, which you have to move in there manually, so i can't see the point of using this software to move one file then move the folder to the same directory manually after. I guess it's good for replacing system files tho, but i wouldnt reccomend using it for it. Best done manually.

bit harsh huh dude - wasn't expecting that - I just found it today right before my post - hardly useless - it works for me as I always unzip my themes into the resources folder - and yes I use it mainly for system files - lot quicker in my opinion. Just wish it had another line for changing imageres.dll as well. Don't see how doing it manually is any better - not everyone is into all the ins and outs - some people just want an easy hack! Nough said

Sorry if i came of a bit harsh
Anyhow, i am 100% more comfortable doing my customizations of system files /replacements of system files, manually, rather than letting a program do it. But thats only what i prefer, i can't speak for others (Does this application even create backups of the files it replaces?)

For system files it's fine, but for it to work as it was intended he (the author) should find a way to make the application able to put the folder inside the directory as well.
Just my personal opinion

It's all good Sergio - I tend to do that a lot my self - LOL
When I do my own which I usually do I find myself with a whole bunch of .dll files saved from other themes. Hell I think I have 6 imageres.dll saved in the windows system 32 folder. It does back up the originals it says - so this would be safer for me.

I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64 bits RTM Build 16385.

Now, I did not patch anything yet. I was just trying to backup the original files.

In system32 and in syswow64 I have both themeui and uxtheme files.

For my themeservice.dll, it is not in system32 or syswow64. The only themeservice.dll file I can find on my system is here:

C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-themeservice_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_05f77252e20d9cfd\themeservice.dll

Is that possible?

I do not understand. I just checked my other laptop, in which I also just reinstalled windows 7 64 Bits from the same disk, and the System32 folder CONTAINS the themeservice.dll file.

Somebody could shed some light on this?

OK I know why. I am using XYPlorer and it does syswow64 redirection. What a pain.

problems

when i rested my computer after instilling the patchs my screen keep flcking on the login menu i could not do anything i had to get into safe mode and remove the patchs so i can login normal sorry for the spelling

Same here bro. Let me guess, your shortcut fonts turn transparent? At least, that's what happens to me.
There's really nothing you can do about it. There are temporary fixes but they reset after you logoff/logon.
I don't mind it. Personally, i think it looks cool.

Did you read the note in step 9?

NOTE: In most themes there are only 2 files (a folder and a theme file)

What theme are you trying to use?

*Update*

Sorry, I just installed it by running the themeinstaller.exe, that's all you have to do.

It installs it self, those are self extracting installers, couldn't be easier.
