Hi,
So my laptop was pretty messed up and i had to reinstal Windows7. Had a clean laptop for two days, then tried to turn it on and got a message saying an error occured and it can't read the hard disk, ctr alt del to restart ( this was the reason i had to reinstal ). I restarted and it booted, but now it says it can't log on to my user account, which is the only account on this laptop. I only get this message and OK button which takes me to log on screen.
Tried everything..like checking for errors - an error occurs and it can't run that
Tried system restore - again, error.
Tried to delete/create new user account - it does nothing when i click on those options in control panel.
Tried regedit - the search won't find regedit, went to windows folder, found command.com, but it won't let me use it.

Oh and in safe mode, everytime i access My computer, i get a big error saying C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refears to a location that is unavailable. It could be on hard drive on this computer, or on network......

Any thoughts?

Hi
Welcome to Seven Forums :)
Have a look at this thread from Microsoft Forums - Microsoft Answers
Noticed that you are unable to create another account - have you tried enabling the hidden Admin account?

Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

Once you are a able to create another account you can follow the following from Microsoft - Fix A Corrupted User Profile

Fix a corrupted user profile

Your user profile is a collection of settings that make the computer look and work the way you want it to. It contains your settings for desktop backgrounds, screen savers, pointer preferences, sound settings, and other features. User profiles ensure that your personal preferences are used whenever you log on to Windows. If you tried to log on to Windows and received an error message telling you that your user profile might be corrupted, you can try to repair it. You will need to create a new profile, and then copy the files from the existing profile to the new one.
To create a new user profile

To create a new user profile, you must first create a new user account. When the account is created, a profile is also created.
The steps that you should follow will vary, depending on whether your computer is on a domain or a workgroup. To find out, see "To check if your computer is on a workgroup or domain" in What is the difference between a domain, a workgroup, and a homegroup?
Hide all
My computer is on a domain

  1. Open Microsoft Management Console by clicking the Start button
    4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg
, typing mmc into the search box, and then pressing Enter.*
    18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.jpg
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. In the left pane of Microsoft Management Console, click Local Users and Groups.
If you don't see Local Users and Groups

If you don't see Local Users and Groups, it's probably because that snap-in hasn't been added to Microsoft Management Console. Follow these steps to install it:
    1. In Microsoft Management Console, click the File menu, and then click Add/Remove Snap-in.
    2. Click Local Users and Groups, and then click Add.
    3. Click Local computer, click Finish, and then click OK.
  3. Click the Users folder.
  4. Click the Action menu, and then click New User.
  5. Type the appropriate information in the dialog box, and then click Create.
  6. When you are finished creating user accounts, click Close.

My computer is in a workgroup

  1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button
    4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg
, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety, and then clicking User Accounts.
  2. Click Manage another account.
    18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.jpg
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click Create a new account.
  4. Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type, and then click Create Account.

To copy files to the new user profile

After you create the profile, you can copy the files from the existing profile. You must have at least three user accounts on the computer to complete these steps, including the new account you just created.

  1. Log on as a user other than the new user you just created or the user that you want to copy files from.
  2. Open the My Documents folder by clicking the Start button
    4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg
, and then clicking Computer. Double-click the hard disk drive that Windows is installed on (it's usually your C: drive), double-click Users, double-click the folder with the name of your account, and then double-click My Documents.
  3. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
If you don't see the Tools menu, press Alt.
  4. Click the View tab, and then click Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
  5. Clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, click Yes to confirm, and then click OK.
  6. Locate the C:\Users\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy files from.
  7. Select all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files:
    • Ntuser.dat
    • Ntuser.dat.log
    • Ntuser.ini
  8. Click the Edit menu, and then click Copy.
If you don't see the Edit menu, press Alt.
  9. Locate the C:\Users\New_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and New_Username is the name of the new user profile you created.
  10. Click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.
If you don't see the Edit menu, press Alt.
  11. Log off, and then log back on as the new user.
If you have e‑mail messages in an e‑mail program, you must import your e‑mail messages and addresses to the new user profile before you delete the old profile. If everything is working properly, you can delete the old profile.

If the steps above do not fix the problem, you should contact your customer support provider for assistance. To find additional information about customer support options that apply to this computer, click the Start button
4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg
, click Help and Support, and then click the More support options link at the bottom of the Help window.
Hope this helps and regards

Ok, Thank You for a very fast response.
I have managed to log on to Administrator account and i got the same error as soon as i logged and when i accesed My computer. Tried to create a new account, but i get the same problem i had on safe mode. When i click on Manage another account i just get the click sound and nothing happens.
Don't know if that helps, but been to C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile directory, there only is a folder named AppData and a file named ntuser.dat
Also C:\Users is empty.

Have you tried the methods in the post above?

Method 1:
I would suggest you to check if you face the same issue in safe mode – In Safe mode; you have access to only basic files and drivers. Refer to the link to start the computer in safe mode and then check -
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

Method 2:
If you do not face the issue in safe mode then I would suggest you to put the computer in clean boot state and after that check if any non-Microsoft service is interfering with the processes. It is possible that there are many processes running which causes this issue –
How to Troubleshoot a Problem by Performing a Clean Startup in Windows 7 or Vista

Method 3:
It is also possible that the user account has gone corrupt or is not working properly. I would suggest you to check if you face the same issue in new user account -
you may refer to the link - Create a new user account-
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/Create-a-user-account
If the issue gets resolved refer to the below link to fix a corrupt user profile -
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

I'm not sure if i understand this, but i only had one user account, into which i'm still unable to login. I'm able to login to the enabled admin account.

And yes, i face the same problem in safe mode. Can't create new user accounts, it does nothing when i click to do that.
And for the last link on your thread - if C:\Users is the "user directory", it's empty. No Desktop folder, nothing to copy.

I was thinking regedit again, since i can access the enabled administrator account in normal mode, but the COMMAND.com still don't work and the search option also don't work, so can't find regedit.

Ok just to be sure we are on the same page:

  1. You are now in the hidden Admin Account
  2. You cannot log-in on your usual (previous) user account
Are you able to browse into your user accounts under explorer i.e. C:\Users?
If possible, please post a snip of the current users on your system - be sure to blank out any sensitive information before uploading the pic :)

Do you have an anti-virus or malware application installed? If yes, can you run it?
Could you also try the following?
Show hidden files and folders - explorer->tools (menu)->folder options->view->check "show hidden files, folders, and drives"-> click "ok".
Check again whether you can access the Users in your system drive.

Also in control panel, check if you can interact with User Accounts

Keep us posted and regards

I have AntiVir, it's working now. Did a scan yesterday ( before i even get this problem ), got nothing.

Tried the "show hidden files" thing, still nothing on Users folder.
The only things it lets me do in control panel is set/change a password for current account and change the picture.
