I had this same problem when building my pc. (see my specs). I tried replacing my motherboard then replacing the memory for different brand. After setting the correct memory setting for the new memory brand; I had 6 gigs showing. I would try new memory and set the correct setting in bios.
I am not buying new memory. There is nothing wrong with it if CPUz says i have 6GB installed. Its obviously a software (MSW7) fault. The memory alone was around $80 each stick of 2GB iirc.
Thanks
Have you rum memtest on those sticks to see if they're bad? -
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
Also the advice you quoted is excellent advice from the standpoint that if the memory is bad you could have it replaced by the manufacturer (RMA). Same with the MB.
The other point in that advice is to try to manually set the memory's settings to it's spec's as spelled out here -
998805 - 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 6-8-6-24 Redline (Triple Kit)
as for this.....
Its obviously a software (MSW7) fault.
You might want to consider that Microsoft neither makes memory nor motherboards. Nor are they responsible for overclocked systems.
And speaking of overclocks.... that could also lead to problems if done wrong....like high voltages destroying components....memory for example???
In short it could very well be a
hardware issue. Epecially since you said it worked six months ago.
Ah, it shows it has 2048MB installed, though 6 months ago, before I reformatted, I know it defiantly showed 6GB in system information.
My two cents
