Auto login....

I used the command "control userpasswords2" or the features in UAC to bypass needing to login when the PC boots. It worked no isssues. However, Now, I cannot install updates or make changes to the registry without entering the ADMIN password but it does not give me a place to type in the password " a box up will pop up and tell me to enter password but the 'yes' is grayed out and there is no place to enter it"... How do I revert what I did.... So I can now enter a password when the system boots up?

I have tried 3 options none of them work I cannot find the Local Policy Security settings and I tried to edit the registry to change this!!

Just out of pure curiosity - I am thinking maybe you are using an admin account. In my experience if I use an admin account to install programs (as I do sometimes) you don't need to enter the password you just click continue.

Can you post a screen capture of the message? I might be able to help you on this.

Exactly, the very last picture in that link is what I am getting ( all the way at the bottom)....

"Securing yourself out of your own computer" is what I have done !!


But I don't get it because If you search how to "disable password on login" none of the instructions mention this scenario ..

This was all done so when i booted up my HTPC I did not have to log in... but I needed the PC to have a password so I could remote desktop etc...

It is a bit ambiguous, but it appears that the problem occurred in his circumstances because he disabled all admin accounts. Are all your admin accounts disabled? If so, you can reassign admin status to your account or create a new admin account by:

It is not generally recommended that this account remain enabled, so after you are finished, you should disable it again.

I re-reading my last statement, I felt some clarification might be expedient:

Original is in italics:

"It is not generally recommended that this Built-in admin account remain enabled, so after you are finished elevating an existing account or creating a new admin account, you should disable it again."

Apologies if you surmised this on your own...better safe than sorry.

not good i cannot add another account... the same window pops up with no ability to enter password...i also tried booting into safe mode. the only other thing i can think of is too do a restore point if it lets me
