Next time you loose connection, do an IPconfig /all right then.

See if the setings have changesd at all from when the connectoin is working fine.

The only other thing (besides the apple/adobe software issue and it can happen with ANY apple or adobe software install, nnot just itunes and photoshop) is that /maaaaybe/ your ehternet adapter is going to sleep on you. You can go into the advanced power settings and turn off all sleep on the ethernet adapter but that's more of a long shot.

I actually have all non-microsoft services disabled at the moment, although I'm sure adobe is running in the background somewhere.

I already disabled powersave at one point, that was listed in a suggestion that I had researched. Thanks for offering input though.

I really wanted to buy a new NIC just to test to see if it works, but living almost in the middle of nowhere, the radio shack and walmart here don't sell one. I'm probably going to have to order one from newegg, then deal with the pain of returning it if it doesn't fix my issue.

One of my friends also suggested that it may be a modem issue, which confuses me since the connection troubles only started when I installed Windows 7, but perhaps my modem isn't compatible fully with this OS. I made an appointment with TWC just to have my modem replaced. Another friend suggested that when they come out they take a look at possibly amplifying the signal strength when they replace the modem. We logged into the modem settings last night and tried to find some reference sheet somewhere of acceptable SNRs for up/downstream.

Could an outdated BIOS be causing this? Or chipset drivers? I tried visiting my motherboard's website and found nothing about chipset driver updates, but a few 'improved system stability' BIOS updates. I'm really anxious/nervous to try updating the BIOS. I've never done it, and I just know I'd screw it up.

Everything looks normal on your ipconfig /all, according to that you should be online but I need to see what it looks like when you lose the connection.

Could be the modem, I've seen that before so updating it may help.

The bios update may be worth a shot, it's not very hard to update the bios, I've done it lots of times.

You should try the Asus support site for bios and drivers.

hahaha i have exactly the same problem. the default gateway is not available.
i can have hours or minutes or days of trouble free internet and then all of a sudden i lose connection with my router.

i have a netgear dgn2000 wireless router and realtek pcie gbe family controller rtl8167 on an asus m4a88td-m evo

i use trouble shooter and it resets the connection and then everything works ok.
sometimes say once every 20 times while repairing it finds an uinidentified network and adds that to my existing network and neither will work so i have to disable or delete them and then do anopther troubleshoot or even reboot.
i have googled this problem and it is rife and always its windows 7 that is the common denominator. before asking me specifics is there a fix anywhere? surely by now someone has sussed the problem with windows and the solution is out there. i have seen loads of "ive solved it!" posts on various forums only for that solution not to work for everyone.
it is very annoying and seems to occur when i am downloading my "gentlemans films" through the night. ie heavy use.
its a problem with windows as other pc's can use the internet via my wireless router while this one is down.
my netgear router DGN2000 has the latest firmware and i am connected to it by a cable.
please ask me for any further info and i will try to supply it. but there is something very basic that windows isnt doing or hasnt set up that is causing the prob. its not a hardware prob.
the fix for nvidia hardware is to use vista drivers. just do a google for the default network cannot..... and windows 7 will be there in every result.

Because your ipconfig looks so normal I'd have to say that something is blocking the connection, possibly your A/V software or it's firewall. Have you tried to disable or uninstall your A/V software yet?

Here's my IP config after the most recent disconnect. My modem has been replaced and the technician told me that signal strength is not screwy here. I would've done a screen capture of this but it was extended above and below my screen resolution.

I don't know enough about this to know what's normal or what may be off. This was *while* I was disconnected as well.

I removed my router entirely, as was mentioned before. I disabled my firewall about two weeks ago due to issues playing WoW. I also have no AV software other than Mbam which I run two-three times a week. It doesn't run on its own. The only Non-MS service running in msconfig is ATI external event utility. I tried disabling that, as well, and nothing was resolved, so I reenabled it recently.

Next step for me would be to replace my NIC...unless anyone else has some suggestions!

Aljaxon I don't mind you trying to get assistance with this as well on this thread but it's up to the moderators if you should post a fresh one.

have you seen how widesperead this problem is with windows 7?
no probs with vista or xp but an upgrade to win7 and the default gateway error rears its head.
i am suprised a solution has not been found yet. i cant believe that people are looking at hardware problems and not looking at windows 7 and trying to find something it is doing that vista and xp dont.
i will wait for a mod to suggest my best course of action but keep an eye on this thread.

I saw a relative few people having the same issue in Vista, none in XP, maybe I didn't dig enough. But yea, if I do a search for "Default gateway is not available" the entire first page is Windows 7. Since it works for most of my friends though that have it, I assume it's some setting or hardware conflict. Maybe BIOS, and I'm willing to eventually try a new NIC since they're pretty cheap. Anything to pinpoint the issue.

The odd thing is that when I played Age of Conan, I dc'd about 7 times every hour. Now that I'm back into wow, I dc 2-3 times a day. It really does seem to be related to the load of my network. When I was downloading WoW and SCII I DC'd about 27 times during the 5 hour download.

that is exactly when my problem arises, during periods of heavy load. i do a lot of downloading from usenet. and i saw this heavy load mentioned quite a lot on the google pages.
someone mentioned a fix

Open Device Manager
Locate the Network Adapter
Right click, Properties
Go to Advanced tab
Locate the Task Offload (aka TCP offload) property on the list and set it to Disabled
After setting this property and applying the changes, the Internet connection remained stable and no longer dropped out when transferring large amounts of data.

me myself i couldnt find the exact phrase so i adjusted tcp checksum offload ipv4 to disabled. it was on rx tx enabled. this seems to have reduced the problem.
i must add i havent a clue what i am doing or have just done
on that advanced tabs there are a lot of dodgy things enabled like "green ethernet"

an update. i have refrained from any heavy downloading or usage and i havent lost connection once.
dunno if that thing i adjusted the tcp task off load thingy worked or not.
now to try some heavy load usage.

I have to admit, I've tried that as well. I haven't had to do many major downloads and I don't typically ever have to, it's just that my recent install of Windows 7 caused me to have to re-download everything I had with Windows XP. I just find it so odd that I have this issue with Windows 7 but in so many years of running XP, I never disconnected due to this issue.

Downloaded it just to see, and that's a wireless lan NIC driver. Mine is not wireless, nor is it the same model as the realtek one you linked. I have a new NIC arriving in a few days, will post back if it does or does not resolve the issue.

I've actually been experiencing the exact same problem on my HTPC and have tried a few things (mostly to no success).

Here's a few things i'm sure of
1. It happens during heavy network traffic (very reproducible using bittorrent)
2. It seems to be specific to the NIC not the modem/gateway

The display name for the driver i have installed is "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller"
Hardware ID is "PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_02791028&REV_02"

I upgraded to the "7.31.1025.2010" dated 2010/11/22 on the realtek download page.
I haven't been able to reproduce the problem since the driver update and I'm currently pushing over 1.3MB/s in download speeds.
