Am I the only person who uses JetAudio? I switched to it years ago when I was having problems with WMP stuttering. JetAudio plays everything smoothly without any glitches.

I love JetAudio! The thing I love most about it though is that I can use my mouse button to easily scroll back and forth while watching a video. I'm not sure which others do that, but I don't think WMP does and I get frustrated when I have to use the forward and backward scanning buttons instead.

!!!deadly slow!!!
Quite happy with foobar2000 for music + MPCHC for videos.

foobar is at times hard to understand and set up, it takes some time of getting used to all the scripts, components etc. etc. but once you put your mind to it, it looks nothing like the horrible default UI.

VLC works for me on Vista64. Supports PGS and XSub subtitles. Disappears as soon as I touch it in Win7. For .m2ts and .mkv playback it's tough to beat Splash Lite. Only thing is the free version has no PGS subs support(not planned.. only in Pro.) One thing about Splash, you can move the slider with impunity playing .mkv files. It won't crash. It may stutter if you don't have a supported GPU, but it shouldn't crash. On my Vista64 PC with hw supported GPU, it's rock solid.

On Win7 SPlayer seems to work well.

The thing limiting my choices is the subtitle support. I can't get VLC to work on Win7 no matter what so I'd have to set up Matroska Splitter to display subtitles as an overly on MPC Home Cinema. pita.
