How to get back to Windows Live Mail 2010

Windows Live Mail 2010 seemed OK. Then WLM 2011 arrived out of the blue and was installed without prior warning. I don’t like it. How do I get back to WLM 2010 easily? Or are there simple ways of dealing with the problems below?


- It has lost all my imported messages on which I rely, from early 2010 back to 2003 (hopefully I have a back up and can import most of them again).

- Sometimes it won’t start unless I close down and reboot my Windows 7 PC first.

- It fails to show some of my recent messages, missing different ones each time. For 11 October for example it showed one out of three I sent on a particular subject, and after the last reboot lost that one too, so now I have none.

- If I ask for emails concerning a particular search term it says that some may not show while it is scanning my emails, but that’s not true. If they are not there quickly they never appear.

-I want the inbox and sent box to show each individual email amongst others in the order they were sent or arrived, which it doesn’t seem able to do.

- I ask it to find all messages from Alan to Bill sent after 10 October and before 12 October, and it shows me messages from 15 October to 26 October.

- I think the upgrade from 2010 to 2011 arrived as an automatic Windows update, so now I have asked to see all updates before installation to avoid getting it again, but I can't see it in the history list.

I feel that same as you. You may want to try a system restore. But you said that it came automatically. With SR it may come back.

What you may want to do is download one of the many other great mail clients and make it the default. WLM will be on your hard drive but not working.

As you found out the hard way you should never let MS give you automatic updates. But even though I manually install updates I thought mail 2011 would be OK.I was totally wrong, it truly sucks! The thing that really prompted me to revert back to the previous version of Live Mail was the popup that wanted me to set Bing as my default search and MSN as my home page and some other useless MS program as a default was more than I could endure. What I did to correct the issue is: 1. Go to Control panel and select “Programs and Features” then find “Windows Live Essentials” at the bottom of the list and slide the slider at the bottom of the window to the right so you can see the install date. 2. Start “System Restore” and select a date one day before the date of Windows live install and let the magic happen. It worked perfect for me with no lost mail even though I had many mail receipts after installing 2011. You will be prompted to install 2011 again but you can right click on it in update and choose “Hide” for WLE 2011. End of story.

This worked for me and I didn't lose any data or any of my emails! Now I'm back to Live 2010 and I love it.

On a mini computer it takes up too much geography. The right side has a panel that is usless. At first I thought it was nice but as I used it seemed very invasive and reminded me of another program that I didn't like and that is "Outlook". For some people all the bells and whistles are fine but all I want to do is get my mail. I have 4 different mail accounts but I prefer to get each one individually so I can see what is comming in on each. I like to view them all in the "Quick View" window instead of the individual mailbox. To retrieve each one in the 2011 version there is not a "sync" button on the inbox so if I remember correctly I had to negotiate to another menu or page to find the individual sync button. I am happy that I went back to Mail 2010.

No. What's wrong the the UI? It's very simple to use.

What's Wrong with the 2011 version. It was screwing with everything, I couldn't work in word, couldn't access anything from the web, took over 1 minute for a web page to open up, another 3 for the page to fully load. Basically it bogged down my system big time. Un-installed it and problems went away.

Now to look for a non-bogging down mail box to use.
