INF file needed for Windows 7 System Recovery Options to see HDD.

Hi,
My laptop has been acting up and I want to do a system repair. I've gotten several BSODs which lead to the operating system not being found. I ran a virus scan before the latter and nothing was found. I can get to the recovery options via my usb stick, but when I get there the operating system is not shown.
My only option is to load the drivers via the options dialog box to get my system working again. I say this because it doesn't automatically detect the OS. I've tried selecting a few INF files but none have worked.
So if anyone knows the correct INF file to recognize my hard drive and get my system back to windows, please help. If I can get back to windows I can save my data files to my external hard drive and then do a complete wipe of the drive.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1564 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Thanks very much,
Kurojin

Thanks, these all look like they may help! But the thing is I don't have the Windows 7 CD, the OS came preinstalled, and if I go to the command prompt in the Recovery options I only see the usb stick as a drive. "cd C:\" doesn't work so that's why I need the INF file so the WSRO can see the hard drive.

I believe Dell's key is F12. Tap that during post. It should take you to boot options. There you should find diagnostics. Boot into that, it will run tests on your system and may give you some other options. You should have a recovery disk. I believe you can run the sfc /scannow from that and also the startup repair. If all else fails, you can get an external enclosure, put your HD in that and maybe someone will let you use their computer to get your data from it.

Answer found! No need for INF file(s).

Cheers Peebly,

Your suggestions worked. I am back into my windows desktop. The only thing is my laptop fan keeps blowing very hard. What could be the problem? No worries, after I back-up all my files I'll use the Dell system restore to revert the system back to factory condition.

Happy New Years and thanks!

You're very welcome Kurojin, and Happy New Year to you when was the last time you cleaned the laptop air intake and exhaust vents ? a blast with a can of compressed air ,try to keep the laptop raised off any flat surface so you get plenty of room for air movement ;)

Kurojin, can you please illustrate exactly what you did. I'm having the same problem and it isn't clear how you got the system recovery to find the C: drive.

I have exactly the same problem. I can't do anything in Windows Recovery - i'm only allowed to load hard disk drivers which i don't believe i have on my laptop. And i can't turn the laptop on at all. I tried to go to boot options by tapping F9 but after it tries to load - it shows me a big ERROR message.
