Installed NEW Motorola SB6120

Hi All.
This is not a major issue but I was curious why this happens.
Installed new SB6120, provisioned and Cox updated firmware.
Bonded channels with all great numbers. All is well.
I do not have any hub or routers.

Issue
The LINK LIGHT on the modem is always blinking Blue which is said to be normal.
This light blinks even if my computer is turned off.
If I pull my power cable from computer the LINK LIGHT will go out.
If I pull the NAM cable to the computer it will go out.

Seems that my network chip on my motherboard is still active even when my computer is turned off and the modem is still communicating with the chip on MB.
I know this because I have a active green LED on MB that is lit.

Question. Is their any way to tell stop this when computer is off?

I know that this may not be answered but I'm just curious.

Did you have an earlier Surfboard modem?

From what I can see online, your modem has these lights:

Power receive send online link

My earlier generation Surfboard 5120 has these lights:

Power receive send online pcactivity standby

In my case, in normal operation the first 4 lights are solid green and the pcactivity light is blinking orange or solid orange, depending on whether anything is passing through the modem.

I don't have a "link" LED and wonder if it has simply been renamed from pcactivity to link on new models?

If I turn my PC off, pcactivity will remain solid orange--no blinking, so that behavior appears different from your link light.

Look at the network adapter in Device Manager and check the Power Management tab and see if the "allow this device to wake computer" option is checked.

It is unchecked and many think that it is a flaw in the firmware update from Motorola.
Seems eveyone with a SB6120 that has any new firmware has the issue.
It started when Cox updated me to Firmware Name: SB612X-1.0.3.1-SCM00-NOSH

Hello Iggy,

I have the SB6120 cable modem as well. It's not a bug though. The blue light will blink whenever the modem has a 1GB network connection connected. For example, to your 1GB LAN port on your MB. It's the same for me.

It will not hurt anything since it cannot really access the computer while it's shutdown.

I suppose that if you really wanted it to stop, you could put the computer and modem on a surge strip, and turn off the surge strip after shutting down the computer to kill power to both of them.
