Solved friend gives away windows

Hey everyone!
(going to use fake names of course)

My question is, if my friend John gives his friend Tom a copy of Windows 7 and
John got it free from his school, will Tom get in trouble?

Not sure if you guys understand what I mean.
If not let me know please.

Uhhh Well... Obviously if the school finds out.. Yes... because that is a volume licenses copy of Windows (most likely) they only pertain to that school and not for the single user.

If it really is the volume license cd...

now who knows if tom, bill, dick works for the school an maybe he just had a regular copy of windows that does require a CD key, than no.. there is nothing wrong with it because like they said.... You don't buy the CD, you buy the key.

This depends on whether your "Friend" has not opened Windows 7, also if your friend STOLE
This copy then he can be done for illegal purposes.

I would suggest that if this copy is NOT opened or STOLEN then go ahead...counts as a gift.

John is giving it away to Tom because John has a bunch of windows keys and cds the school gave him.

So John has no use for them and is giving it away to someone who needs an update from xp.

John goes to iTT tech, and they just give John programs free.:shock:
Pretty much give away copys of hatever to the student to use.

The question is : is it John's to give away in the first place?

It sounds like John was given the copy by the school, thus John needs to ask, were there any terms and conditions attached to John's acceptance of the software? Since it sounds like a volume licence issue, there are probably indeed T's & C's attached to its use. John would be better served in finding out what these T's & C's entail prior to re-distributing the software.

My company also gives its employees copies of MS SW to use -- but they clearly state that SW is for personal use only -- not to be sold or distributed.

John's school may have similar restrictions on SW they give to folks.
