connected to router but no internet

Hello all, I can connect to a router but not the internet. Network sharing center shows the router connected but internet disconnected. When I run windows diagnostic I get the following error, "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)" I am trying to connect to a public router and other people are connecting fine. I use Norton Antivirus and have disabled it along with windows firewall with no changes. Switching from public network to private also has no effect. This is what comes up under cmd.exe, ipconfig/all.

If you aren't using the msoft virtual wifi mini port then you should disable it because it can cause all sorts of connection problems including DNS problems when it's active and not being used. It might also help to disable the bluetooth adaptor if it's not in use.

I also noticed that your two DNS servers which do not appear to be coming from the router, maybe you typed them into your IPv4 properties window? In any event it sometimes works better to type the DNS server addresses into your routers settings rather than using IPv4.

Lets try one thing... Lets see if your router is getting a correct IP address from the ISP...

Can you display a copy of your STATUS page from your router...
That way we can also determine the IP, Gateways, DNS number... everything about it. Little help on our part.

Once we establish this, we can narrow down the problem either to your computer or the ISP/Router itself.

Maybe this post or the the endless Technet threads on this problem will make my point for me. This wifi mini port adaptor causes these types of problems all the time. I can also look up many Technet threads on this same problem but I think I made my point. I'm not guessing at this, unfortunately it's a well know fact.

Recently had an issue where no matter what I tried, my Notebook would not resolve DNS. Tried assigning DNS servers via DHCP as well as configuring the network card for DNS servers. Could ping the DNS servers at all times, LAN connectivity was fine, Internet connectivity was fine (could ping IPs on Internet), could not ping the URLs.
Disabling the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter resolved the issue straight away.

Well the msoft wifi mini port is mostly for sharing a wireless connection from your PC "connectify".

That is what I would figure. If your computer is not set up as a HotSpot, by default it should disable itself or had never been created in the first place.

Ok, I turned off the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter and that did not fix the problem.

I am trying to connect to a public router and everyone around me is connecting with no problem which makes me think the problem is my computer and not the router.

Those are used by the IPv6 adapter. If your not using the Homegroup, can you uncheck the IPv6 in your Properties in the network connections.

After you do that, disconnect your wireless completely, re enable it, and then ping 192.168.204.1

Do you have a firewall on your computer? Try disabling your firewall temporary to see if we can isolate that problem

are you only using one browser?

Also, check the internet connection settings in your control panel, click on the connection tab, click on LAN settings under local area network settings, and un check all the boxes to make sure your not running any proxy servers.

Firewall had no effect. Antivirus has no effect, and three different browsers.
