apparently i didnt update i mest it up.

Click the link and read on

Well as you read the forum i mess up the bios and now everytime i start my PC its sys bios checksum error.
please insert system disk.

I just now installed a floppy drive to my PC from an older pc.

I read that you can fix that bios check sum error by putting the bios file on the floppy disk and fix it from here.
But i need step by step instructions like what files do i put on the floppy drive and once i burn the files to it will the mobo recognize the files and get the original bios back?

I just want my mobo fix please.

Any pro out there that can help me?
If your wondering What i did to mess it up just click the link above and read.

Hi,

I remember that thread. Unfortunately you didin't receive good advice concerning your BIOS and it all went pear-shaped because you flashed it incorrectly. The person that convinced you to flash your BIOS is no longer here, to help.

From what I recall in that thread the only option left was to either:

1. Buy a new BIOS chip.
2. Buy a new motherboard.

No amount of flashing will fix your problem - I thought you had realised that at the end of that thread? Do you remember writing this:

yes it is not broken i will not fix it and waste my money when i can jsut get a replacemnt mobo

Well i guess i learned one this in the past two day.. !!! DONT EVER FLASH MY BIOS!!!
Regards,
Golden

Just finished reading the other thread. I agree with everything Golden has said.

I feel for you man, and I know you are hoping against hope, but the damage has been done. You have to get into the BIOS to flash a BIOS and that's that. There is no magic cure.

Sometimes I wonder why a BIOS needs flashing. In all my years (40) of working with computers I have never flashed the BIOS; never could see any reason to do so. That said, you have a very servre problem and that is you will have to replace the MOB. I realize this is a sad thing to have happened, and the only help I can offer is just to say "Good Luck". A new MOB is not all that expensive by the way. You can proably find the same MOB that come with you computer out there somewhere on the internet thus you wouldn't have to worry about reinstalling your OS, hopefully.

Well, what do you have to lose now?
If you can download the BIOS .ROM file for your motherboard (I would suggest the original one), then copy it onto a floppy disk, put it in the floppy drive (that you have connected to the motherboard, right?), and boot.

Hope springs eternal!

If the downloaded file is a single .rom file you just cut and paste, or copy and paste, it onto the floppy.

Even if it is an .exe file it's the same thing.

Good luck!

I have never, ever had any issues flashing a BIOS, but I've always used the DOS method since it's the safest and most reliable. I have flashed a BIOS with firmware updates around 40 times or so over the past 10 years.

I use an external floppy drive to do it with these days. Now with Gigabyte motherboards they have a feature in the BIOS itself to do it from there and that works very well too.

The secret is to not interrupt the BIOS Flash and make sure the power doesn't go out either. Yes, you can revert back to the previous BIOS and you should be good to go.

Many times a BIOS firmware update is needed, especially since the release of Windows 7 and such.

ok the bios from hp is an .exe i can get the .ROM file from it i will also put botht the .EXE fille and the .ROM file in the floppy just in case.

Will it affect the process or what?

Or should i just have one file only?

If just one file, which one? The .EXE or the .ROM?

Just the .exe if the file is from HP. That should be the "Flash Bios" self running program.

Follow these steps:

  • Copy the .exe to a formatted, blank floppy disk (nothing else on the disk)
  • Ensure that the "Flash Bios" floppy disk is in the floppy drive.
  • Push the button and start the computer and let it go. The system should boot from the floppy disk and start the .exe without any user input.
  • (If the Flash Bios program does not start, and you only see an A:\ prompt you would then need to type the filename (FILENAME.EXE) and press ENTER.)
  • The message "Press any key to continue" appears > Press the ENTER key
  • The message "Press Y to replace old BIOS with the new BIOS" appears > Press the Y key.
  • When the BIOS flash is complete, the message "Flash program successful. Press any key to reboot" appears
  • Remove the floppy disk from the floppy drive > and then hit any key.
  • The computer will now restart with the new BIOS installed
The above step-by-step is from DELL. The HP program is very similar. Only the wording is different.

If the system does not boot the floppy drive (the .exe program doesn't start and there is no A:\ prompt) it could be because the boot order has the floppy disk last in line. You can disconnect the HDD and the CD/DVD drive and then boot in that case.

It is very important not to interrupt the system during this process. Refrain from touching any keys on the keyboard, moving the mouse, or interrupting the power to the system or any devices connected to it (printers, etc). When you push the button to start the system, push your chair back at least 2 times your arm's length and fold your arms across your chest and don't move until you are instructed on screen to do something. And then only do that thing.

Good luck!
