Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) Release Candidate (RC) on February 10, 2011

Stratos, you're a few months too late to "get up to speed"; I would gladly explain, but it would take too long, just try it out for yourself ;)

@kristalsoldier: The time needed for initial startup of IE had been dependant on accelerators and add-ons ever since IE implemented them; I did notice a slight improvement, though, but nothing clearly noticeable. Perhaps it is just the fact that IE9 still isn't final, there may still be time to improve this.

Ok, dumb question. I have not used IE in a very long time, switched to just about everything besides it so now you guys have my curiosity, what's so special about IE9 that has everyone excited?

I don't know about others, but I have used IE since IE 6 and this version (9 beta) is very clean and seems to be lightweight. Personally, I love the minimalistic looks and feel of the Beta.

So, to answer your question, this effort from MS is "new" for them and users like me who do like IE are eager to use it. Another plus point for me is that IE (in my case 9 beta) integrates very well with MS Office 2010, which I use extensively. (this does not mean that other browsers cannot be made to integrate with Office, but IE seems to integrate almost seamlessly.)

Right thanks. I did try to disable the add-ons and accelerators (I don't have too many), but I did not notice any significant change. Let's hope MS fixes this by the time they release the final version of IE9.

i really really hope it is lifgtweight and does not use to much RAM as IE8 does, this is what i hope most of IE9

I have installed the beta and I never really noticed any reason for me to switch from my current Chrome browser. Not trying to turn this into a Chrome vs IE thread but Chrome has always been a lighter browser and the least taxing on a netbook which doesn't have a lot of power to begin with.

Other than an odd offset oversized back button an a few other changes, I still felt IE9 (beta) was too slow for my tastes. I didn't look into IE9 where passwords are stored however if it still follows how the previous IEx browsers are, you need a sep app to see those password, unlike Chrome which allows me to change and see them as necessary.

I'm wondering the same thing. I downloaded the IE9 beta and was not blown away in any way, shape or form. Sure, it's a slightly different interface, and yeah it renders some really cool IE9 specific web pages wonderfully...but at the end of the day, I was like..."yep, just another release of the browser".

Have they finally taken the address bar off the same line the tabs are on? That was so annoying that I simply didn't give the browser much of a look after that.
